This book was good... but sometimes too preachy for me. Part 2 went on and on when I was reading the parts that took place from the book that was given out. I will say I was surprised at the twist at the end about who was apart of the Party. I can see why some people love this book. I wanted to read this book years and years ago, but never got around to it. But now that I am trying to work my way through the Rory Gillmore Reading list, I decided to read it. It’s been long enough that this was almost a first read for me. It is a very good book, undeniably, but I found it very slow in places (excerpting a book in the middle of it was painful and frankly felt a little heavy-handed). I also did not love the casual treatment of the MC’s rape fantasy—as though it was only to be expected if normal sexual relations were curtailed. On the whole, though, engaging and worth the second read 20+ years later.
