I loved the parts focused on the MC Shadow, his character development was wonderful. Great writing and I was hooked immediately into the story and the character of Shadow. Gaiman is a hit-or-miss author for me. I’ve loved some of his works, others, not so much. This one clearly falls into that last category. In fact near the beginning I was tempted to DNF it entirely. Am I glad I persevered? Not exactly.

I wasn't sure what I expected when i started American Gods, but it was on several lists so even though I don't usually read fantasy type novels I thought that I would give it a shot. I understood that it was a dark fairy tale, but would I understand it? So I really expected that I would like this more than I ended up liking it, which was kind of disappointing. I'd read one of Neil Gaiman's other books (Neverwhere) that I actually liked quite a bit, and I'd heard good things about this book, especially since it was being made into a TV show.
