3.5> rounded up to 4. The ending was brilliantly executed, very well done. Overall, I enjoyed my long foray with this book but at times I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the players and trying to figure out what was going on. I didn't even try to figure out what all the astrological stuff meant and how it connected everything. I thought this book could have done with some editing. Although the language was beautiful, it often interfered with the flow of the story. The first 200 pages are complicated if you're a person who is often reading "on-the-go" like me (few pages here and there waiting for children etc) so I had to have a cast-list to keep up with who was who in the book. The plot was fun, although I wished I knew more about the apparently common theme in 19th century fiction to link storylines to planetary move ...more
