I enjoyed this book a lot. Not only was it interesting to hear about the lifestyle in 1920’s Paris and to learn about Hemingway and the circle of artists in 1920’s Paris (Picaso, Joyce, Fitzgerald, etc.) but the attitudes were so different back then. I think the author did a wonderful job of making the characters, even the unsympathetic ones, come to life.
Quite frankly, I didn't know what to think about this book before I started it. I didn't read much about it before I started it. I didn't read the blurb. The only thing I knew about it was what was presented in my real life book club as it was pitched for our summer reading. I truly appreciated the research and craft of writing in this book. I felt like the author did - for the most part - write in Hadley's voice. However, there were times when I felt like I was reading a laundry list of informa

I'd hope this would pique my interest enough to want to return to Hemingway books i read and hated in high school. Although i can probably better appreciate the craft and artistry of the writing now i don't think time has made me any more likely to appreciate the plots and characters. This book has satisfied any curiosity i might have had about Hemingway. Enjoyed the retelling of Ernest Hemingway's first marriage to Hadley Richardson, perhaps the real love of his life. This is a book club book for means I am looking forward to everyone else's opinion. I thought it was very well written and enjoyed reading more about Hemingway's life. (Actually reading Hemingway is another story; although a very forward, liberated diner owner told me he is a " man's" author). I have spent time in Key West and am more aware of Hemingway's life there with Pauline ...more
I enjoyed this book...closer to 4 stars than 3. I am not a huge Hemingway fan, but I am very interested in this time period and in Paris. Since I hadn't done a lot of reading about the life of Hemingway, I learned a lot from this book in a very enjoyable way (which is why I gave it 4 stars). At times I found the main character to be very frustrating in her behavior, but you can't re-write history! It was interesting to know more about how The Sun Also Rises was written, and how Hemingway develop

I enjoyed learning about Hemmingway
With all the hype about this book, I have to say that I was fairly disappointed. It didn't really grab me and I found myself doing some page flipping/speed reading because I got rather bored.
