It's light on plot and incident, and sometimes a bit heavy on exposition, but this book is just so gosh-darned likeable. I'll always love found family stories that take place on a spaceship, and this one has great characters and great relationships, and a pretty interesting world to boot.

I'd give this 3.5 stars. Partway through, I started to feel like this book was just a series of vignettes modeling emotional maturity and empathy - there's definitely a long stretch of it where the crew of the Wayfarer is getting into assorted interesting situations, but the emotional landscape gets a bit dull, as no one is ever unkind or mistaken, to say nothing of actually doing the wrong thing.
