Maybe I'm just dead inside (likely), but this did nothing for me. Objectively, this book was fine. The prose is serviceable but not notable. Its mythology/premise was interesting, but not explored enough, especially from the religious angle, which felt superficial from both the golem and the jinni perspectives. It invokes turn of the century NY, but doesn't make it feel it feel real or lived in (which begs the question, why set it in that period if you're not going to do anything with it?). The ...more
