First Reread:

Rereading this alongside powerful was very enjoyable and felt like a whole new experience!! Definitely recommend tandem reading whenever you decide to reread… however it is strange seeing some of the plot and conflicts and how they play out in other books iykyk

Okay it’s finally time to write my review. I’m so sorry to my Powerless girlies, but this book was the most generic, typical romantasy book ever. There was a knife to the throat scene every two pages. It became cringey 😅 at least 5 “who did this to you” scenes. Every time she was injured, “I’ll see you soon father”, referring to her dead father. Lots of dancing. A mini love triangle. Forbidden love. Rivals. I am not lying when I say I DEVOURED this book completely. The chemistry between PAEDYN GRAY AND MALAKAI AZER IS ABSOLUTELY ELCTRIFYING! And I regret not reading this before. The first seen of them meeting in loot, her stealing money and later saving the future enforcer, their conversation in the dark alley, the facade paedyn has to play for her survival, her getting selected in the sixth purg I AM ABSOLUTELY SPEECHLESS WHILE WRITING THIS! Lauren has created a masterpiece while writing this one. I am not lying when I say I DEVOURED this book completely. The chemistry between PAEDYN GRAY AND MALAKAI AZER IS ABSOLUTELY ELCTRIFYING! And I regret not reading this before. The first seen of them meeting in loot, her stealing money and later saving the future enforcer, their conversation in the dark alley, the facade paedyn has to play for her survival, her getting selected in the sixth purging trials, the dinners in the castle, the first time she presses the dagger against kai's throat and he does the same, their continuous banter during the entirety of the book, him braiding her hair when she got blood on her ear, the interviews during the trial and her sassiness, her bonding with kitt and him asking her to be his partner at the ball, adena making the silver gown for the first ball, kai teaching her how to dance in his room at midnight, her dressed as the SILVER SAVIOUR, him lifting her on his shoulder when she didn't listen to him, the fight that broke out during the ball by the resistance and her helping kai to heal by removing the knife from his shoulder, and when he says "Promise me you'll stay alive long enough to stab me in the back." and she replies with "That's been my goal all along, Prince.", the first round of the trials at the whispers, kai's fight with braxton, padeyn surviving from ace, her smiling when he calls her pae and him saying "If you die, I am going to kill you" when she is on the verge of death, kai healing paedyn, her slapping him, him distracting her from the pain, them being partners, her healing him with the medicine she made, the mosquito scene, them defeating 5 wolves together, her asking him his favourite color and him answering her question with the same color her eyes have, the dance at night, Sadie getting killed, Paedyn making him plead and kai saying "Few have the power to make me plead.", them cuddling beside fire, him saving jax, kitt requesting paedyn to look at him in the gardens, her joining resistance, their archery competition where she wins from him and he is trying to distract her and when paedyn does the same later, he loses his senses over her single touch and he says "Don't play with me like that.", the red dress for the second ball, her accidently spilling wine on him, dancing with him, Kai getting drunk and Paedyn allows him to touch her when he's sober, their iconic dialogue being "Truth? The truth always.", the panic attack she gets, him loosening her dress to help with the panic attack, the fight at bawls- Paedyn with blair archer and kai with braxton,, trial two at plummet mountain in two teams, kai killing ace, paedyn winning the second trial, them sitting in gardens his coat under her dress, thumb war, them bickering in the gardens about blueberries and strawberries. him giving his coat to her because she feels cold, her black dress for the third ball, kitt going to loot through the secret passage, kai getting the nightmare of her hurt and then she enters his room to calm him, them sleeping together and cuddling, him not sleeping the entire night and then getting her breakfast on bed first thing in thee morning, them almost kissing, her avoiding him at the ball, her stealing keys, the rain scene where they almost kiss and his dialogue "I don't give a damn if you forget who I am in title, so long as you remember who I am.", him teasing her with the brush of his lips on hers and covering her with his coat, the final trial in bowl in the maze where kai fights andy, paedyn with blair, Adena dying(the scene that broke me), the green vest Adena made for Paedyn, the resistance taking over, the betrayal, paedyn killing the king and the shocking twist that comes with it, Kai saying "I am a fool when it comes to you, maybe when I rid myself of you, I'll find courage so I'm giving you a head start.", him giving her one more chance to save her life, kitt becoming the king and kai becoming the future enforcer, Kitt asking him to bring paedyn gray. I basically summed up the entire book for my future self and other people. The entire book was a solid five star for me. I DEFINITELY LOVED IT! <333 ...more

this book is literally a disappointment to booktok for three reasons -
1. it is DOWNRIGHT plagiarism of three books - the selection, red queen, and the hunger games. the kingdom name in the selection is Illea - in powerless the kingdom's name is Illya. the power system is set up as elites vs ordinaries - which reminds me of - you guessed it - red vs silver blood in red queen!
oh we want more red queen plagiarism examples? the love triangle with two brothers, a powerless person pretending to have this book is literally a disappointment to booktok for three reasons -

HELLO!? DOES NO ONE ELSE SEE THIS!?
2. the kai azer bs is out of hand. he is the most OVERHYPED man on booktok. i once read a comment saying that kai's whole personality is paedyn and i havent been able to unhear it. not only is he a clear example of men written by women, he is SO BLAND. there is nothing about him that makes him different than the average booktok guy! he is like the john smith of booktok - nothing special about this one! booktok is getting out of hand - when a woman writes a man in fantasy it really shows! they're so unrealistic it actually bothers me. and the forced brother love triangle also was not it. no chemistry between paedyn and kitt. dont piss me off
3. this book is hyped beyond what i thought possible. not to mention the crazy powerless fans that are kind of like the swifties of booktok - i dare you to say a single word against powerless in a booktok video comment section. i get that its a good book for people who are starting out reading but beyond that? it kind of highkey sucked. if theres anyone out there who read red queen, the hunger games and the selection who actually LIKED powerless - please enlighten me. i dont see it at all.
paedyn and kai have chemistry, but this is also overhyped. wtf is that shitty kai azer booktok audio with the ai-ass voice that goes "oh darling" like UMMMM THE AI VOICE IS INSANE. DONNNTTTT piss me off 🤨🤨 ...more
