I went into this because I genuinely needed a palate cleanser, but I ended up loving it. I was a little worried I’d be a hater based on some of the reviews I read, and because of the way the first bit of the book was going, but I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this book. I just think I was expecting something completely different given it being "ex-boyfriend's dad" but I enjoyed Elsie's version of this trope.

The buildup to Gwen and Bash’s relationship was honestly so g 4⭐️!!!

I was a little worried I’d be a hater based on some of the reviews I read, and because of the way the first bit of the book was going, but I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this book. I just think I was expecting something completely different given it being "ex-boyfriend's dad" but I enjoyed Elsie's version of this trope.

The buildup to Gwen and Bash’s relationship was honestly so good - my chest was aching more often than not. Elsie did an amazing job of weaving their developing relationship together with their bond to Clyde, which made everything feel so deep and meaningful.

I wish we could’ve gotten some more light with Tripp, because I hated him for most of the story. We mostly see him in straight turmoil or just being insanely annoying, and then he says, “coming face to face with her makes me think I should try again. You know? I feel like maybe there’s something there.” GAG. I wanted to throat punch him. However, when we actually got an emotional moment out of him, when he revealed feeling unwanted and that his mom said all the negative stuff about Bash, I wanted to vomit because my chest hurt for him. So, I wish I could’ve gotten to know him just a little more on a not-so-annoying level.

Then we get to when Gwen decides to go to Clyde’s during the fire…. BASH’S REACTION TO GETTING HER BACK??????? I will think about this scene forever. Him crying had ME on my knees. I now need to read more books where the MMC is on his damn knees crying over the FMC because it had me in my FEELINGS so hard. I love it when a book makes my chest ache.

Besides that, there were so many good moments in this story. Shout out the Eaton cameo <3. Also, I loved how sure Gwen was of herself, and that we could sit back and feel the real sadness and childhood issues she carried. At first, I worried she’d get on my nerves about body image issues, so I was delighted to see that it was not over the top and handled tastefully.

And Bash?? Perfectly depicted. Many authors ignore the MMC’s turmoil unless it revolves strictly around the FMC. I loved reading about his struggles with his job and his son. That poor man needed a break. ...more

Apologies for such a long read time, I just started college so i’ve been a busy girly. Anyways. Bash has genuinely become one of my elsie silver universe fav mmc’s alongside cade ofc. He is just perfect for gwen (and me 🤭). although, i wasn’t a huge fan of some of the plot and it wasn’t the ex-boyfriend’s dad trope in the way i expected in some ways.
