My review: The Inheritance Games

Recap of overall premise:
Avery inherits billions from a man she has never heard of and her life is turned upside down. Of course the family is shocked by the news and some are clearly unhappy with this turn of events. Turns out the deceased billionaire likes games and Avery and the grandsons (specifically two) set out on a quest to unearth the meaning behind the puzzles and riddles dear old granddad left for them. Book 2 is even more twisty than book one. There are a ton of reveals and secrets that come to light. I enjoyed the puzzles and it seemed like each chapter brought some type of new answer that led to more questions.

I still wouldn’t put this in the romance category, although there is an underlying triangle between Avery, Jameson, and Grayson. By the end of the book Avery does select the boy she wants to be with and it wasn’t the one I would have chosen. I was disappointed ☹️

There were a couple other disappointments I had.

I spent the whole book thinking I knew exactly who Avery‘s father was, only to have a huge twist be uncovered at the end that once again left me a bit disappointed and feeling sad for Avery.

Additionally i thought the way this wrapped up was completely over complicated. New twists were added at the end and I just felt like the author was throwing in new things that didn’t need to be added. It became overwhelming, unnecessary and a tad bit eye-rolling. I didn’t need all that messiness at the end.

In some ways I felt like not much progress was made moving the story forward. But at the same time I felt like every single chapter had a new twist and turn. So to some extent it was so twisty that I didn’t have time to put pieces together to start to unravel the mysteries before something new was thrown into it. Yes, I learned a lot but on the flip side I’m just as confused at the end of the book as when I started.

I will be jumping right into the final book to see how this all wraps up. ...more

I really enjoyed this book but I don't think it was as good as the first book. There seemed to be less suspense. I did enjoy the progression of the relationships between all of the characters. Also, I am a fan of the short chapters.
