Ellie Cates learned at an early age that life can be cruel. Suffering from her loss, she never found solace or trust in anyone, especially men. As a result, Ellie hid her pain and formed a hard protective shell around her emotions.

“But no one could fix anyone else. We could only fix ourselves.”

Shattered memories of a childhood from long ago. A past riddled with disappointment and abandonment. Revelations that leave Ellie expecting very little from life. A loss of faith in humanity and the people that she meets along the way. A girl who grew up longing for the mother that left her behind. Solid 3.5 - 4 stars for me. There was a bit of a lull about 3/4 of the way into the book for me, but it didn't last too long. And Ellie drove me crazy a lot. I understood why she was the way she was, but at some points I was tired of her self-loathing behavior. But, overall, it was an interesting and entertaining read. ...more

3 Star because i expected something more manly out of Gabriel... but the part on the last few chapters, my gawd, i cried... i had tears streaming down my face as i read that scene and i loved their flaws and all. huhuhuhu

I love most of Mia’s work, Archer’s Voice being on of my favourites. I wanted to like this book, I really did.

I understood why Crystal was the way she was and felt horrible for Gideon’s backstory. I just didn’t feel the tension that I’m used to. It was all a bit lacklustre. I know I’m in the minority here with my low two stars.
