Excellent book! For someone who grew up in the 70s and 80s, this was like strolling down memory lane! More than a few time I quietly "geeked out" at all the gaming, music, books, tv and movies, anime and other references. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I will just simply end with this: while most gamers of any age and level will enjoy this book, I strongly feel that those from my generation will *love* it!!

Game on!! 💻🎮

Everything that is good about this book has all to do with nostalgia and nothing to do with the quality of the author's writing. The author often does a thing I hate in books where he puts an unrealistic character in an impossible situation, and then the character is able to come out of the situation on top (all of this is a normal and good plot) except this book explains ALMOST NOTHING.
(imaginary dialog between me and the author)

Oh I'm going to do this impossible thing I shouldn't be able to d

I really enjoyed this book. I am a child of the 80's, a complete nerd, and a video game junkie when I was younger. It was a "fun" read. Very nostalgic. Although I did feel like I had out grown it a bit. I kept thinking my son's would absolutely love this book. I wish it would have been around when I was younger. Would definitely have given it 5 stars. I can't wait for the movie. I'll definitely be there opening night. ...more

I liked this book a lot, it reminded me of growing up back In the eighties. The author did a great job of using the pop culture of the era to tell a futuristic dystopian story.
The only reason this didn't get five stars from me was their was a couple of small scenes that I considered inappropriate. Not only that, those scenes actually did more to slow the story than to speed it along.
This book is an awesome stand alone. I hope the author leaves it that way.
