4.5 stars
Objectively, I should probably round this down to a 4 stars read, however, the ending made up for any slow moments and deadly trials will always do it for me, so I'm rounding up. The Serpent and the Wings of Night is a really solid fantasy. I'll admit, there are some overused tropes, archetypes and predictable plot twists. However, the overall plot is really well executed, the trials and world building are really well thought out, and the main character, although a bit of an "hardened s ...more

Omfg THAT ENDING 😱 I was screaming and went through feeling every single emotion possible. I really didn’t think this was gonna be a 5 star read because I was confused about the magic system in the beginning, but THAT ENDING. Now I understand everything and this was perfect to me. It had vampires, trials, tension, banter, steamy romance, and intense fighting scenes. I don’t want to give too much away but I have a feeling book 2 is going to be INCREDIBLE based off the way this one ends.
i think i found my new favorite series that will FINALLY get me out of my ACOTAR hangover..
i absolutely loved this book. i wouldn’t say i loved every second because the beginning was a bit slow for me, but once it started getting into the nitty-gritty i could NOT put it down. i can’t wait to start the second one and see how it all ends with Oraya and Raihn !!

- fairly unique world and good world building
- both plot and character oriented; story isn’t solely focused on either one but rather a good balance between the two
- loveable characters who have personality
- has a hunger games type of tournament but it’s executed in such a way that I didn’t even realise it
- realistic politics and its challenges
