Wow have I been overdue for a great 5 star book! Also, it’s been a LONG time since a book has made me ugly cry this much. I’ve loved every word of it though, and I could honestly sit down and start it all over again. I’m not even usually a romance lover, but this one truly is a must read. I didn’t see the twists and turns coming, my heart is still slowly unclenching, and I most definitely will have a hell of a book hangover for awhile.

Previously I read a YA book by Ashley Poston, and because I heard so many things about this book I decided to pick it up even that The Seven Year Slip was still very hyped.
Magical realism is a genre I enjoy very much. The Seven Year Slip is a whimsical tale of Clementine, a book publicist whose carefully crafted life is turned upside down by a chance encounter with a charming man from her past. This book was perfection to me. I loved absolutely everything about it.

Clementine is grieving the loss of her aunt. A woman she loved dearly, who took her on adventures around the globe. She's moving into the apartment that he aunt owned and left to her in her will. The apartment that has a very magical secret.

I don't know what I expected, but this was not it. It took me a minute to get into it and "find my footing"; but once I did, I was riveted! I also love that Ashley Poston had the foresight to not try into incorporate some kind of suspense (see spoiler for what that means if you've read it). I get frustrated with authors that have a completely predictable plot twist that takes up reading real estate for no reason that adds value to the story, in my opinion. This was a really interesting, unique premise and I loved that. Poston made it work despite the fact that it seemed nearly impossible to make the plotting make sense. It did take far too long to pick up though. I started to get really into it probably 1/3 of the way in.
