“I wasn't aware that words could hold so much. I didn't know a sentence could be so full.”
4 stars. I loved the first half of this book. It was once it became a courtroom drama that my interest started to dwindle a bit. But then that awesome ending came and I was really happy with how everything wrapped up, particularly in terms of the murder case.

Loved this one! So beautifully written with breathtaking imagery. Sometimes a little slow and sometimes moving a bit faster - sort of like the marsh. Kya was such an amazing character who overcame so much. The story just kept getting better and better. My heart was in my chest and I didn't want this one to end. But it was poetic in the outcome! ;-)

Overall, I enjoyed this story, but it took way too long to actually get interesting.
Also, I am totally fine with changing things that'll affect "historical accuracy" if it makes it less problematic. There was really no reason to use the n word in this book (especially considering how recently it was published) just to show how one of the characters was mistreated. There are plenty of other ways to do that. ...more

Kya the Marsh girl in Where the Crawdads Sing is the best book I have read this year so far. I am amazed at how Kya survives most of her life on her own and survives through mostly things from earth. Learns how to buy things , even though they are few for survival, by trading mussel and smoked fish. She trusts two men who also leave her. One by going to college and the other by marrying another woman because he can’t marry a marsh girl. Chase one of the men ends up dead. Don’t want to spoil the

I wasn't really sure what to expect at first with the plot jumping time periods. Wow I can't imagine what it must have been like for Kya being abandoned so young left to survive on her own. I loved her friendship with Tate and that he didn't judge her as the towns people had. I loved that she rose above after learning to read and facing so many obstacles to overcome on her own. This book did a great job of bringing the Marsh to life and sheading light on what life was like for Kya.
