This story blew my mind! I started the audio a few months back but did not get far in before it was due back to the library. It's been begging me since then to pick it back up. So I broke down and purchased it and restarted it only to fly through it in a few days time (considering I was juggling it with a few other buddy reads, I'm impressed with the timing lol).

This started out slow and took me a little bit to get hooked. Definitely took several twists I wasn’t expecting so that kept me engaged. I didn’t feel like I really got to know Monique that well and I would have liked her character to be a little more developed. The final twist related to why Evelyn chose Monique didn’t feel very convincing, unfortunately. It felt a little too convenient or thrown in with not much build up. This is a book that actually lived up to all the hype. I heard many positive things about this book and I was really touched by this story.

I listened to the audiobook and it was really well done and formed an immersive story.

For a book that essentially recounts a whole life story, it moves surprisingly quickly. And there was a twist at the end that I did not expect.

I didn't like the main character at all. She was too superficial for me, and only cared about getting rich and famous. She uses people and doesn't care who she hurts to get what she wants. She changes who she is just to please society and those who are using her. ...more
