I believe I have frequently started off my review of books like this by saying that I 100% understand that I am not the demographic that this book and series was written for. I am always interested in checking out books I see getting a lot of attention on Goodreads, but I know that in some cases I may run into some things that just are not for me but are not an overall criticism of the book. As you read this review, keep that in mind. If you think you are like me, you might feel the same. If nor I believe I have frequently started off my review of books like this by saying that I 100% understand that I am not the demographic that this book and series was written for. I am always interested in checking out books I see getting a lot of attention on Goodreads, but I know that in some cases I may run into some things that just are not for me but are not an overall criticism of the book. As you read this review, keep that in mind. If you think you are like me, you might feel the same. If normally books in this genre appeal to you, you should probably take it all with a grain of salt.

THE GOOD

I have enjoyed the journey in this fantasy faerie world. The magic, the monsters, the conflict – all of it very interesting. Maas did a very good job with her world-building and I enjoyed being in it a bit more with each book. Sure, sometimes a turn of events seemed a bit cheesy or convenient, but it was all in the name of entertainment!

THE BAD

Is it just me, or is there a “I am writing a trilogy and the first two books were big, but a manageable size, so I have to make the final book in the trilogy HUGE” syndrome? Compared to the other two, I thought there were large sections of this book that dragged on and did not seem to advance the plot with their over-analytical length. A 100-page meeting could have been summed up in a 20-page chapter. I think the content was all necessary, it just kept losing me to repetitive boredom. If this book had been edited a lot more, it would have been a great improvement.

THE SEXY

Now, this is the one that I think the normal target audience looks for in these books, but was lost on me. At least once every 50 to 100 pages there is a pretty intense and graphic sex scene. Lots of groping and dirty talk – stuff to stimulate the readers libido, but not much to add to the plot or the story. If they had cut these out, the only thing that would have been lost would be the sex scene itself. Some may argue that the passion between the characters would be lost, but I think that was pretty obvious without those parts.

Now, to be clear, I am not saying it is bad they are in there or that they should be removed. I fully understand the entertainment value for those who are into some hot sexy-time in the books they read. I just wanted to point out that I didn’t feel it added much and, if you are a reader like me, you may have the same experience.

THE SUMMARY

• A fun and creative fantasy world with lots of interesting characters, magic, and monsters
• Drags on a bit in several places. Could have been much shorter
• If you like in-depth descriptions of your favorite characters getting it on, step right up!

4.5⭐️ My second time reading these series and I still enjoyed it. The story of Rhysand and Feyre and their journey and choices… they are truly made for each other as both sacrificed themselves for the sake of others… a powerful couple with powerful friends… loved the ending…it would of been so cruel if it didn’t end the way it did.

This book was so good and literally wrecked me. I have never been so enthralled with a story. I could not put it down and read it in less then two days. The emotions this story made me possess was absolutely stunning. The twist and turns of this story along with the self sacrificing and love of the characters had everyone of my emotions out. I was laughing out loud, there were parts where my stomach would drop of pure horror, next was the ugly crying and then happiness to head to the next twist. ...more

I think this series might make it to my Favorites shelf.
I enjoyed it soooo freaking much.

This book was not as spectacular and awesome as the second one, but it was still awesome, if you know what I mean. :)
There were a few things that bothered me... Rhys is too damn perfect... Even though I haven't really forgiven him the Under the Mountain. (I know, I know...)
Tamlin doesn't deserve all this hate. I hope he gets his happily ever after in the spin-off series.

I was totally routing for Feyre as things build up but hell was she wicked. Damn did they deserve it but then the regret later one. Though they still deserved it just because...

Anyway I was still happy when they made it out of the Spring Court... again... I don't like the place much, never have, never will, I didn't even like it at the beginning.
Maybe it had something to do with Rhysand Seeing the ending of the previous book, I would have thought the start of this one would be a lot different. Anyway there are still a few things that annoyed me, like why the hell is Lucien Elain's mate like seriously, she would be 100 times better off as Azriel's mate, I mean at least he has wings. But like everyone could love Azriel because he is just awesome. Lucien is like blah... probably since he comes out of the Spring and Autumn Court, these two really don't help.
Then, I'm not too sure why Elain doesn't see a little bit more of the future. It seems that as soon as they are able to understand what she says and sees she doesn't see anything anymore. Plus there is the damn "No, it doesn't." About Cassian, like she is predicting his death but he doesn't die. Not that I want him dead but she might as well have been a bit less scary.

I didn't like Rhys dying either, I felt like it was a bit too much. I thought the high lords coming together to help with the cauldron would have been more efficient than him dying for it and the high lord reviving him. Because if they help with the cauldron they don't need to fight again their dislike of him and there is no struggle for power. When they have to revive him, it's like the animosity between them is just erased. I know he just saved all of them but still, I can totally see Beron not showing up.

I don't know what the next book will be about but I sure want to know more about Eris. I kind of like him. I'm sure he is not as bad as he seems for some reason just like Rhys wasn't. And I want a girl for Azriel like seriously he needs one! ...more

Yasssss!!!!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
I'm dropping a star simply because things turned out a little too well for my taste. Of course there are certain stories and characters I'd like to read more about, but hey that's the whole point of having more books coming our way.
What I liked, but didn't love was the fact that (rather miraculously) a bunch of foes turned to be either good or easily tamed, not the main ones of course, but people who had shown a different character and were redeemed towards the end. ...more

This book was good, but definitely a slog to the end. There were many times in the middle of this book that I seriously considered putting it down and taking a break. I only kept reading for Feyra’s love story with Rhysand. Not as good as book #2.
