As mentioned with the first book, I know that this book is not aimed at my demographic. I think if I was in the demographic for this book it is likely that I would give it the full 5 stars. But, while some of it was not for me, I still enjoyed it a lot - so 4 Stars all the way.

I did like this one better than the first one. It felt more well rounded and the characters seemed stronger and more interesting. I think it could be a case of the author hitting her stride with this universe. While ...more

A solid 4 stars here. This was so much better than book one and as this is the second book in the trilogy the story really enfolds here. Nevertheless, the book could still have been about 50 pages shorter IMO.

Holy cow! There is so much to unpack here. First thing first …

This book truly made me fall in love with this series again. I was rather cautious about going back and rereading the first one. I had this book on my shelf and knew I would need to truly remember the first one to understand this one. I was right. You cannot pick this series up in the middle and pretend you will understand.

This book truly made me fall in love with this series again. I was rather cautious about going back and rereading the first one. I had this book on my shelf and knew I would need to truly remember the first one to understand this one. I was right. You cannot pick this series up in the middle and pretend you will understand.

The character growth in this book is astonishing. This book is not so much the flash in the pan romance that the first one was. A Court of Mist and Fury lets Feyra grow slowly into who she truly is without the burden of caring for everyone else. If I could add a theme song to book one Feyra, it would be "Surface Pressure" from Encanto. Feyra in book #2 heals SLOWLY! I love this about Sarah Maas's representation of trauma. Many YA books skim over trauma and the characters just "get better" in a month. This book really looks at the effects that trauma has on the psyche. Feyra is a husk of the beast she once was when she is living with Tamlin.

This brings me to my next point...
Tamlin is one character that I didn't think I would hate, but damn Maas did a good job. He takes the route of the overprotective lover to "resolve" his trauma. Nothing about that actually makes either of them better. If the readers are being honest, Tamlin's "coping skills" end up making both him and Feyra worse.

******** SPOILERS BELOW *************

Welp. Rhysand now is the hottest book character I have ever read. Maas does a lovely job at showing what lengths people are willing to go to for those that they love. Rhysand played a part and took on all the abuse just to protect his family. Not only that, but he knows that Feyra is his true mate the whole time and refuses to tell her. This makes their love even more real. I absolutely hate books where relationships just snap into being, fully formed because someone is "their mate." That is bogus. Trust and a bond are earned and grown over time. This is why the relationship between Rhys and Feyra is so wonderful. Neither is expecting the other one to come without baggage and they accept one another for it. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

P.S. Tamlin is a jerk and I hope he gets an ash arrow in the heart.
P.S.S Velaris sounds like the most amazing place. I would instantly pick up my life and leave it all behind if I could live there. (chef kiss) ...more

Meh. Better than the first but I still won't be continuing

Recommended: if you're on the fence about continuing the series, this book will probably decide it for you.

Thoughts:
I was absolutely done with this series after how freakin' boring the first book was. Quite disappointingly so. Tamlin was 100% unlikable for me, nothing really seemed to HAPPEN for about 75% of the book, and the ending "mystery" was so annoyingly obvious that imagining the character struggling with it made them unlikably stu ...more
