There were a few things I would change about it, but it’s really perfect for anyone who wants romance with a little bit of action. I felt like the prince (I can’t recall his name right now) could use a bit more character development. I hated Aspen from the beginning of the book and always had the impression that he was using America, but at least he had some character development. The prince didn’t have any at all, and even though his character had layers, I never felt interes I loved this book! There were a few things I would change about it, but it’s really perfect for anyone who wants romance with a little bit of action. I felt like the prince (I can’t recall his name right now) could use a bit more character development. I hated Aspen from the beginning of the book and always had the impression that he was using America, but at least he had some character development. The prince didn’t have any at all, and even though his character had layers, I never felt interested to learn more about him.
However, the romance of the book is beautifully done, from when she was dating Aspen to her kiss with the prince. The book had a lot of development in the relationship, although I think it’s pretty clear she’s going to end up with the prince in the end, it’s pretty much like any other YA romance novel. One of the best, in my opinion. I think the plot/romance was pretty good, seeing as it kept me so engaged I finished it in one day. I think the characters could use a bit more development, and I kind of wish the rebel attacks were a little darker, but I believe we’ll get to see more of them in the books to come. I wish there were some more sad moments. There were a few, but they seemed to skip along very quickly and never stopped for you to cry. (Of course, this is a thing of preference, although I quite enjoy books that keep me up all night crying my heart out.) I wish some of the scenes that were meant to be intense lasted longer, because they usually skip almost immediately to a light hearted scene between the prince and America.
I actually absolutely love the way Aspen/the prince thing happened, because it was the best love triangle romances that I’ve ever read. America is constantly trying to choose between Aspen and the prince, and I found myself rooting for both of them at different times. In the end, I think the book has an unusual ending for a young adult romance, and I love it! Overall a great book for anyone looking for light hearted romance with some slightly darker moments, also good for anyone new to the romance genre. Definitely recommend! ...more

A ver... se me hizo una lectura simple y sencilla, la narración se me hizo hasta muy meh, nada demasiado interesante, pero la trama y los personajes se me hicieron lindos y divertidos.
Siento que si lo hubiera leído a los 12 lo habría adorado, pero igual se me hizo una lectura buena para pasar el rato, tranquila.
La verdad era lo que necesitaba para salir del tremendo bloqueo en el que estaba y por eso me gustó.

This book is my guilty pleasure.

I can't truthfully say it is a literary masterpiece or flawlessly written or has a well-concocted world. In fact, I find much of the worldbuilding and characters highly unrealistic.

Yet the novel does have a very homey feel to it, both sweet and heartwarming. The main character, America Singer, has her flaws, but her narration is comforting, easy to follow, and makes the reader want to root for her. She describes the people around her in a way that I don't feel is ...more

Even though America is really annoying, I enjoyed reading this book. She can't go two seconds without mentioning how she's never going to win the selection because she's a poor five, or how much she misses Aspen, LIKE BRO, GET. A. LIFE. I've said it before and I'll say it again, MAXON IS SUCH A SWEETHEART. Obviously, we're supposed to hate Celeste and how she sabotages everything, but it's genuinely hilarious, and I was dying when she and America got into a fight. YOU GET A 5! ...more

This was better than I expected!!
It was very enjoyable and I ate it right up!
It was super predictable, but I can't deny that I was thoroughly entertained. America was a little dumb at first, but once you get into the book, it's not so bad. And of course both Maxon and Aspen are gorgeous and each have their own personalities and stuff, so that was cool.
But that's basically it, it's a nice sweet book about a bunch of girls competing to be a princess. ...more

The bachelor but royal and dystopian.

So I am trying to read all of the Tik Tok crazed books and I decided to pick this one up. It's quite different from what I usually read and I still am not quite sure how I feel about it.

The storyline is interesting enough, the main character enters a bachelor-type competition to marry the prince and become the next princess of a dystopian and futuristic U.S. named Illea. Ironically, and quite distastefully, the main characters name is literally American Sing The bachelor but royal and dystopian.

So I am trying to read all of the Tik Tok crazed books and I decided to pick this one up. It's quite different from what I usually read and I still am not quite sure how I feel about it.

THE REST OF THE REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!!

America is your average "I'm not like other girls" type character who, unlike every other girl in the selection, does not want to be in the selection. She is still in love with her hometown ex-boyfriend, Aspen. America and Aspen shared a secret relationship as Aspen was in a different caste as America. The castes are basically really dramatic class systems and the castes are not really allowed to intermingle. This obviously makes her resentful of the prince and what he stands for in the country, so she lashes out on him during their first encounter. Of course, this immediately makes him like her as he simply cannot believe such a lady would speak to him that way. *sarcastic gasp* You can pretty much guess how the story rolls out. America is whiney, annoying, entitled, and just stupid. There is absolutely nothing I hate more than a main character who cannot makes any decisions whatsoever.

The rest of the characters are kinda just bleh. They fall into the background quite easily and cannot be distinguished from each other.

The world in the book was actually quite interesting as well. Having the country be post-war and futuristic yet feel old-timey was definitely and interesting layer to add.

But overall, this book is not worth the hype in my opinion. Nothing about it stood out to me. I finished this book about five days ago as I write this review and to be completely honest, I've already forgotten most of it. It just didn't stand out to me. I think it's still worth it to read though, if only to say you read it before the tv adaptation. ...more

"The Selection 👑" was a good book, and I truly enjoyed it. The idea of the story was beautiful, and the novel was enjoyable too.

The story starts with our protagonist (America Singer) getting a letter from the palace about how she's invited to join a competition consisting of 35 girls to have a chance to win the heart of Prince Maxon.
