Well, I am simply in love with Kurzweil. How could I not be? This was one of the best books on Philosophy of Mind that I could imagine reading. Early on in the book, Kurzweil respectlfully disagreed with Steven Pinker, and imo, setting himself apart from the good genes crew (Dawkins et. al.). He went on to take his lucky reader on a tour of the future of the mind, teaching them about everything that has been done to date to try to create a mind.

This book was hard to read for me, not because it was not clear but for all it implies about reverse engineering the mind. I have to admit in the end it was even scary to think about all the implications.

Kurzweil's book about the mind is a fascinating read. He describes how our minds work and develop. He demonstrates how important patterns and hiearchies (spelled wrong) to our ability to learn new skills and how our brain processes thoughts and solves problems.

It's a fine book if you want an introduction to Artificial Intelligence, it offers a brief view of our brain and how nowadays we attempt to replicate its structure with computers. But if you already know about the subject, you'll find it vague and some ideas may seem half-baked.
