YAY YAY YAY YAY! I am so happy that I finished this book!!!!!😊😊😊 The Selection was by far one of the best books I have ever read! Am I overly enthusiastic? YES! I can’t help it! Practically every book I read, I fall in love with. STOP MAKING SO MANY GOOD ROMANCE BOOKS, actually please don’t. I loved, loved, loved this book, I don’t even know where to start! (Finished book at 1:17 AM., finished review at 2:59 AM) I honestly think my sister was waiting for me to finish this book, lol.

BRIEF SUMMARY/BLURB: This AMAZING book follows the not so average life of 17 or 18 year old (I’m not quite sure, I don’t remember 🤣) America Singer. In her beautiful country of Illéa they have “social statuses” and lots of unfair laws . They have numbers that somehow “define” the citizens, which are referred to as castes. Beginning from a One to an Eight, these numbers are important to their country. A One means you are royalty or considered royalty and/or living in the palace. A Two means you are very wealthy and live well, however, you are not royalty. A Three means that you are also wealthy and live a comfortable life, but you are not as rich as Twos. Fours are pretty average, they are what you may consider middle-classed people these days. A Five, which America was originally, means you live a decent life, you don’t ever have leftovers after meals and lots of times you go hungry and you have to work a lot, but overall you have a fairly good life. Being a Six is tough because lots of families have a lot of children to feed and very often, Sixes go without a complete meal and have to work a lot, they are very poor. Sevens and Eights are basically what you consider homeless. Sevens are not as bad as Eights, but it’s still pretty tough to live as either. Stealing from markets, living in dirty, old shacks, it’s very terrible. And the laws are so unfair! You’re telling me that you have to sign some sort of stupid papers to sleep with someone who is below your caste?! WHAT THE HECK?! I hope the loveable prince puts a stop to this law. Anyway, enough about my rant, for the rest of this summary I’m going to use the actual blurb. “For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined." This is the first book in the series and you just get an introduction of what living like a Five is like, America’s view on living in the palace, America’s love for Aspen and her complicated relationship with Prince Maxon, autocorrect keeps spelling his name wrong. I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE ARE ONLY SIX GIRLS LEFT! And Celeste.....don’t even get me started on her! Ugh, she’s such a snitch! There will always be a character that I hate, I’ll leave my complaints about her in the MY THOUGHTS section😂.

I recommend not reading this section if you haven’t read this book yet.
MY THOUGHTS: Let me just start by saying, I love how creative the cover is!!!❤️ I also can’t stop replaying the ending scene in my mind! Omigosh, America and Maxon are so cute! ASPEN IS RUINING EVERYTHING! AND CELESTE TOO! There are like four more books in the series, so there has to be some BEEF going on between these rotten (Celeste and Aspen) teenagers. I read this book in just two...err three days and the reason why is because I couldn’t put it down, more like I couldn’t turn my iPad off! This book was so amazing! Characters I hated....Celeste, definitely. Celeste thinks she is gonna get the crown, well she is wrong! She is literally such a snitch! She needs to go home!I’m sure y’all agree, if you’ve read this book or the series. Never in a million years did I think I would start this series. I strolled through rows of the shelves of our school library, saw them, ignored them. I was looking for something contemporary, but nothing was good and I thought that this series was fantasy. Let me tell you, I was so wrong. If it wasn’t for my sister’s AMAZING group, (which you should join, by the way, if you’re not a member yet😄) Romantic Reading, I probably would’ve never picked this book up and I’m so glad I did. Thank you to everyone who told me this was a good a book and/or wrote this in as an option on the Romantic Reading poll! This is something I never do, but now I’m going to answer some questions for this book. Also, I just wanted to mention that I usually pair up songs for books that I’ve read and I think for this book I would choose.....um...part of “Pretty Girl” by I honestly have no idea... and I’ll get back to y’all on this. Moving on...
1. "What was your initial reaction to the book? Did it hook you immediately, or take some time to get into?"
To be honest, I was instantly hooked in. I was zooming on all the way to chapter six with this book, it really was a quick read for me! Initial reaction: LOVE. IT!❤️ Why? Oh, because it is literally one of the greatest pieces of literature I have ever laid my fragile fingers on, this book was so well written with lots of detail and I loved the characters!

2. "What was your favorite quote/passage?"
Probably "No, I’m not choosing him or you. I’m choosing me." and the part about that’s like it’s not about your castes, numbers don’t define you, I really liked a ton of scenes! When America “kneed” him in the leg, haha, the first time they met, the part when Maxon says that he plans on keeping her there for a while, when they first kiss!, so many things....

3. "What made the setting unique or important? Could the story have taken place anywhere else?"
Um, EXCUSE ME?! Definitely not! The setting could not have been anywhere else...it was perfect! What made the setting unique is that the whole book took place in a made up country that was truly a “hidden” gem and I liked how Ms. Cass used lots of her imagination in this book. I really liked America’s name and I thought it was really unique!

4. "How did the characters change throughout the story? How did your opinion of them change?"
I can’t really say that America changed too much, though she did learn a lot of things about herself through her journey of the Selection, so far. My opinion of Aspen DEFINTELY changed. First, he’s a jerk. Then, he’s begging for forgiveness in the privacy of America’s own little room in the palace. WHO. DOES. THAT?!! In my personal opinion, boys don’t deserve second chances and especially not Aspen, America deserves so much more.

(Last question) 5. "How did you feel about the ending? What did you like, what did you not like, and what do you wish had been different?"
Um...I truthfully wouldn’t change a thing. Considering that The Selection is a continued series, I really liked the last few sentences, I think that it was the perfect way to end the book.

I heard that this book is going to be turned into a movie and I AM SO EXCITED!! I literally am still trying to read the Twilight series on top of this too! I couldn’t say this was the best book I’ve ever read, but it was pretty close. Overall, I think this book DESERVES a FIVE STAR 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 rating because it was indescribably PERFECTION! "I can’t help it." The ROMANCE was my level of GREAT, right up my alley🤣, however, I hope that level is highly raised in the next book, so excited! Y’all should for sure read this book (if you haven’t) because I don’t think you would be able to go about your life knowing you didn’t even try to read this book, WARNING ⚠️ : YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Side notes I forgot to mention: There are six girls left! The tension is real! Marlee needs to spill her secret, I am dying to hear what it is! Will her parents be disappointed? Will she no longer receive attention? Hmm...I will find out! Celeste is AWful, Aspen is AWful. May is AWesome, America is AWesome, Maxon is AWesome, Kriss is GREAT! Also, I didn’t think that Maxon would be this... humorous, kind, and cute. 😖🤫😬I thought he would be a giant jerk, turns out I was wrong, again.

I’ve seen so many other people read this series, so I just had to see what all the hype was about. I really enjoyed this read, even if it didn't have a great deal of depth. The whole thing felt like the YA book version of The Bachelor. I loved the characters in this, unquestionably a highlight. Maxon is seriously adorable and such a genuinely great person, with an enormous heart. I would definitely fight over his heart as well, just saying! I never thought that I would read this book in a million years.

Back when I didn't really read, my mom made me pick out book from this stand at this community fair we went to. It had sat in the garage ( GASP!!) and then on my bookshelf for years. But then as I saw it sitting in my unhaul pile, I decided why not give a try. Especially since there is an adaption coming out. I was pleasantly surprised. This book was a very good book, but I’m not in the mood for it, however I forced myself to get through it. It is very similar to other science fiction books with a world similar to this one, and it wasn’t unique in the plot. The relationships are also very predictable.

If your in a mood for a predictable romance with a little bit of a love triangle, I’d recommend this book.

Assim que iniciei a leitura deste livro, nunca mais consegui parar.....A ideia do livro cativou-me bastante e o Maxon, minha nossa sou completamente apaixonada por esse personagem. Shippo muito Maxon e America, mas devo admitir que a America irritou-me em várias partes do livro. Não é um livro 5 estrelas, mas com certeza desfrutei muito!!!!!
