Leer este libro fue una de las peores decisiones que he tomado. Culpo a la hermosa portada por hacerme querer leerlo. Es hermosa, la portada es una de las más lindas que he visto. Pero el libro es pura basura. No quiero comenzar escribiendo puros comentarios negativos, porque sé lo mucho que duele leer una reseña negativa de tu libro favorito. Pero no pienso morderme la lengua y callar todo lo que tengo que decir acerca de él.

La Selección es uno de esos libros que prometen ser lo mejor, pero qu Leer este libro fue una de las peores decisiones que he tomado. Culpo a la hermosa portada por hacerme querer leerlo. La Selección es uno de esos libros que prometen ser lo mejor, pero que terminan malgastando tu tiempo. No sólo carece de originalidad, sino que el potencial que tenía termina siendo asesinado por la autora, la cual le agrega cosas sin sentido, y cuyos personajes creados terminan pasando sin pena ni gloria. Yo pensé que éste libro me iba a gustar. No sólo porque la portada me parecía bonita, sino que también el argumento me dio ganas de comprar el libro. Sonaba interesante. Y como me encantan las distopías, decidí comenzar con la lectura. Por desgracia, el libro no fue lo que esperaba. Yo creía que lo de "no juzgues a un libro por su portada" se aplicaba únicamente a aquellas portadas feas y nada interesantes. La Selección probó que las portadas bonitas también pueden resultar en libros malos.

Como mencioné anteriormente, este libro tenía potencial. Pero creo que la autora no supo qué hacer con él y terminó poniendo la torta, en grande. El libro falla en ser una distopía con el tema de las castas -lo cual al principio sonaba bastante interesante-, ya que eso queda en un tercer lugar; la autora no le da la importancia que merecía. La páginas se van relatando la vida de la protagonista, América, en el castillo: los trajes y vestidos elegantes que lleva; lo hermoso del castillo y el príncipe; y la enemistad y rivalidad que se desarrolla entre ella y algunas otras participantes del concurso. Todo era mucho brillo y glamour. Yo esperaba más acción, conocer más acerca de las castas y los rebeldes que amenazaban la seguridad de la nación, porque si es mencionada en el argumento, significa que tiene relevancia, ¿no? Pero nada interesante pasaba. Se volvió tediosa la rutina. La autora sólo se enfocó en una parte: el concurso. Sólo eso. Por eso es que el libro es bastante aburrido. Cansa ver a América haciendo lo mismo una y otra vez.

Otra falla ocurre en la parte del romance. Hay una triángulo amoroso, y no es uno bueno. Personalmente, pienso que los triángulos amorosos, aunque estén muy trillados, elevan las ganas de leer el libro, porque te mueres de ganas de saber con quién se quedará la chica al final (generalmente es entre una chica y dos chicos). Sim embargo, eso no ocurrió con este libro. El romance entre Asper, América y Maxon es realmente aburrido. Para mí pasó desapercibido. No me gustó, simplemente porque ni Asper ni el príncipe me hicieron sentir algo. Yo siempre ando pendiente de encontrar un nuevo bookboyfriend. Pero a aquellos dos chicos los descarté inmediatamente; no tenían chisma ni les veía entusiasmo alguno. No me hicieron sentir nada. Absolutamente nada.

No le recomendaría este libro ni a mi peor enemigo. Es completamente aburrido y sin gracia. Lo que más odié de esta lectura fue que no me generó ninguna emoción o sentimiento. Nada. Lo que yo busco en un libro es que me haga sentir algo. No importa si es odio o amor. Lamentablemente, este libro no resultó en una buena lectura. Este es uno de los libros que yo utilizaría para inducir el sueño. Fue una tortura leerlo. Sin embargo he tomado la decisión de continuar con la serie, ya que a) soy masoquista, y b) quiero ver si la autora logra escribir algo peor que ésto. ...more

After having read The Prince, I was very excited to start The Selection and it didn't disappoint!

Following America Singer through the process and the journey of The Selection is a wonderful adventure. I enjoyed meeting all the other girls in The Selection, finding out who her friends were as well as her enemies. Hearing about her life before The Selection was something else that I really loved.

wow its been 11 years!! 11!!! a whole decade!! since i'ce read this book. i almost want to give it 3 stars but ive settled on 2 bc its so bland LOL its so boring that i cant get into it at all . im just... for lack of a better word, bored. nothings in the line. there r no stakes or anyth and i practically know this entire trope by heart that i was it to give me someth more. ig its a book more gearsd for younger teenagers but young adult...? not rlly.

I enjoyed reading it. I got so into how frustrating Aspen was, and how funny Maxon and America's relationship was established. It focused more on how conflicted America's feelings were for Maxon. I was expecting more background with the other girls and more cat fights, and the ending was expected. But so far so good, I'm ready for the sequel. ...more
