Between Shades of Gray is a sobering historical fiction novel with a great main character I immediately fell in love with. Lina is a young Lithuanian girl with a wonderful family. Her beautiful life suddenly takes a drastic turn when the Soviet police arrest her and her family and send them away. The story follows her struggles and triumphs while flashing back to bittersweet memories of her sweet life before.

This historical fiction book is our One School One Book, book choice for the 2013/2014 school year. It is set in the 1940's during the holocaust. The main character, Lina, is taken from her home in Lithuania and put on a train with her mother and brother. They experience monstrosities of starvation, illness, disease and murder as they are moved towards work camps. Eventually they arrive at a camp and forced to work with other women. Lina copes with her surroundings by drawing pictures and captur

This is a historical fiction novel set in World War II. It is about a normal Lithuanian girl whose house is raided and her along with her family is taken and put on a train. They are transported to Siberia where the y are forced to work as slaves. She falls in love, faces challenges psychically and emotionally. This novel is sad but still exciting. It is a quick but sweet read.
