This checks all the boxes for me for a post-WWII British epistolary novel. A group of strange yet endearing locals: check. Cute orphan with dead idolized mother: check. Single female who gets caught up with the handsome, rich jerk and doesn't notice how much she likes the shy single farmer (nor how much he likes her): check. Romantic confusion ensues: check.

This book was just downright adorable. I listened to the audiobook, which I literally never do, and was so glad I did. The story is told in the form of letters to and from the characters and the audiobook has a different actor reading each letter in their soothing accents. Now I want to visit Guernsey!
