9277 Hmm...I think to a certain extent their reliance on signs and what certain actions portend for the future. I know a lot of people that are still very superstitious about the strangest things.

The other similarity I noticed was the importance placed on proper burials. We still have lots of rituals when it comes to funerals.

9277 The minister's cat is an eaves loving cat.
9277 I listened to Outlander as I have a very long commute to work, and listening to the narration was positively heartbreaking. I just cried and cried all the way to work :(
9277 This may be an odd choice for when Jamie came to life as a character for me, but actually it was when he decided to take Laoghaire’s punishment. I know at the time there are questions about his feelings for her and we all know how awful she ends up being later on, but when it happened it made Jamie seem really incredible to me. Especially since he didn't even see it as something out of the ordinary.

9277 A little off topic, but will we be doing another group read for January besides Outlander?

9277 @ Peggy It is so hard for me to understand that though, I mean if he said to Dasha (view spoiler)

9277 Oh my goodness I have never seen a more doomed relationship! I don't know what the biggest obstacle is...Dasha, Dimitri, or the war itself. I have just finished Part I and can see no hope in sight. :(

Tatiana has grown on me, but for her own preservation I wish she would stay away from Alexander. I keep going between anger towards him and despair at his untenable situation. Ugh...

9277 There is a warmth and joy in Jamie that I have not yet found in Alexander. I know this part of Jamie changes as the Outlander series progresses, but I still remember him this way from the first book. Perhaps my impression of Alex will change as I get further in TBH.

9277 I was introduced by a co-worker. Her sister in law was obsessed, and she kept talking about how she couldn't commit to reading one to see what all the fuss was about. I have an hour long commute to and from work each day, so I told her I would give it a listen and let her know how it was.

The first oh say 3 or so discs didn't do much for me, it seemed like any other historical/romantic/fantasy Scotland based novel...(i.e. Lady of the Glen (which was wonderful btw)) and then it started to change and I really got invested in the characters. I am now on Book 3 - Voyager and am completely hooked.
