24169 I think the best way to stick it to them would be to only buy from publishers and ebookstores that don't support/sell those books from that pricing model. Although there are only 5 on the list (harper collins, hachette, macmillion, penguin, simon and schuster) they each have 20 to 40 smaller off-shoot companies that support this new pricing model (such as minotaur, little brown, scribner, ace, berkely, etc).

Booksonboard.com, Random House, Harlequin, and their offshoots do not support the new price fixing scam, they are safe to buy from!
24169 I remember that David, that is an excellent analogy. All the CDs I have bought don't play well anymore because they wear over time, I wish I had that money back. Low quality and high prices seem to be the trend of a lot of the large corporations. It is quite unfortunate this is happening. Price fixing is illegal yet these new rules may still pass. It's going to hurt the economy and everyone in the long run (except for those handful of extremely rich at the top who want to keep their multi-million dollar mansions, private jets, and cars they own all over the world). I don't have a lot of space in my apartment and my library has almost no books so ebooks have been a life saver for me. If ebooks become more expensive than paper, I'm going to call all my congressmen and start a campaign because this is just too ridiculous and unethical, paper cost a lot more money and resources!

The Kindle also doesn't let you use the industry standard Adobe epub, the most popular format and the one to most likely stick around in years to come. Although you can download calibre, it doesn't always work for every ebook. The Kindle doesn't let you download mobipocket, ereader, microsoft reader, or ADE and the is keyboard on it is pretty hard to use and impractical in my opinion. You also can't share books with it and the book selection is more limited. It's also soooo much more expensive than the other readers and doesn't have touch screen which is a really great feature on some other types of readers. But I think there are pros and cons to all readers!

I believe that wasn't the only instance. I heard they did that on other books without telling the customer or refunding their book.

24169 It is very interesting to read all the news about the "ebook wars" going on. I'm not sure what will happen, but hopefully publishers and vendors can compromise and find a way in which everybody wins.
24169 Maria wrote: "What would make me buy more books at your site is more formats being available. If your competition such as (Fictionwise) can offer books in multiformat and not just that dreaded Adobe Digital......."

We offer MSReader Mobi and eReader also, as well as two Audio formats WMA and MP3. If you are referring to non-DRM files which allow conversion of formats, we do offer some non-DRM. Our titles are sourced from ACS4 servers and come with the publisher DRM in place. ADE formats are often released first for at title, but we do get the other formats as soon as the distributor makes them available. Thanks!

I think you listed all the cons I can think of, but some of the pros of having an Ereader that isn't a nook or kindle are that you aren't tied down to one retailer who have monopolies; you can choose who you buy from which means you can buy from whoever has the lowest price. Having wireless isn't important to me, I actually prefer not to because they have the power to reach into your device and take books back you have purchased (which Amazon did a while back). My fav reader right now is the Sony prs 600 touchscreen but I like the Cybook Opus as well.
