Please check your total.

Just FYI, no need to repost...

I'm trying a new way of posting, including posting mostly one task at a time, and it is confusing me mightily. I like to wait awhile before making another post to give you guys (mods) time to review and update the readerboard, and I know that takes time. How many tasks is it reasonable to post at a time - 2 tasks or no more than 3 books at a time?
I think I missed posting a task, that causing my total to be off. I posted the task that I think I missed and I will monitor readerboard and this space.
Thanks for all the hard work and dedication.

21757 One additional question for Wayne and/or mods - Option 1, if a book has more than one author, do both authors' initials have to be in SESQUICENTENNIAL?

21757 Just finished "Killers" and have to say that this is a powerful, stunning story. As we were listening (I audiobooked this one), my husband and I discussed that we had heard of this story, buried way back when, but didn't realize the extent.
I think he may have sensationalized the end of the story somewhat with extending the number of deaths into the hundreds...but no one really knows how many people died and whether their deaths were intentional or not. I think it is very likely that if the gang highlighted in the story worked out ways to swindle the money of their wards, including murdering them, then other people worked out ways to exploit the Osage as well.
At least the Osage did receive some compensation from the government for the flagrant mismanagement of their finances, but there is no compensation for the lost family members and lost history.
Powerful story

21757 Would either of these work

The Devil and Webster by Jean Hanff Korelitz

or

Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #1) by Mark Lawrence

It is hard to see the red in this one, it is about 50% white, at the top and the letters, and there are streaks of red covering about 10%

21757 I am going to try for 300 points,
The first book I tried to get posted doesn't fit because there is no print edition, but I will persevere!
21757 I would like to get this book approved for length. I cannot find a definite print addition. I would like to use it for Task 30.14 - book published in year with a 1 and a 5, since it is much longer than 600 pages, but I may not be interpreting the rules correctly, and I can't use this book for a task with a page requirement?

21757 Thks for the responses. I am going to experiment with the private group idea. I'm assuming you mean cut and paste the task list, put the posting template at the bottom?
Jun 02, 2017 09:45AM

21757 I'm debating about rejoining the challenge.
For a few years I was a competitive member. I even won the first half once and picked the 50 point task. I came in second overall that time and finished several times. I found many new authors and read some good books that I would not otherwise have read. But there was always those one or two tasks that I could not find a book for, or just didn't want to read.
Then I got really, really burned out about 3 years ago. I didn't enjoy reading anymore, and could not turn that competitive streak off enough to just relax and enjoy the challenge. I HATE the posting part. I tried another group, and it was OK, but it was a team challenge and there were downsides to that as well.
I wish there was some way to streamline posting...LOL it is probably called "post your reading plan and edit that, don't worry about claiming points!" Any ideas, how have things changed in the last 3-4 years?

21757 I haven't played in a long time, but when I saw the Chunnel as one of the inspirations, I thought of the French Revolution, and boy, they could have used a Chunnel - A Tale of Two Cities, or The Scarlet Pimpernel - how about a task that involves the conflict and interaction between the French and the English during the Revolution and the Napoleonic era. The other time in history when the Chunnel would have come in handy was World War II, so if the first time period is too confining, include WWII in the European theater.
