I really suck this year! So it's March and I've made it through 3 short stories. This is so unlike me. I've hit a few dead ends and been super busy otherwise. I shall try harder ;-)[short]True Colors-***- Cute. I like her Wyr kind
[short]Angels' Flight-****-I've read/reviewed the others before, but I really liked the new novella - angel's dance
[short]Devil's Luck-****- Simon - oh my your secret! I was completely surprised. Was it alluded too in the trilogy? Subtle enough to miss, but oh so important. Knew who his girl was going to be as soon as she stepped foot onto the page before, but their connection is original. I'd love more disillusionist books, hint hint wink wink
I reached 69 full length reads last year.My Goodreads reading challenge was set to 80 which I beat (with rereads and short stories)
I'm going to set the challenge to 75 this year

69.Children of Scarabaeus-*****-Late contender for read of the year! Love love love this book, it does everything right, scifi, space opera, biotech, cyberpunk, bit of romance. I just want to read it again"Just didn't seem like a fair trade to me."
68.Across the Universe-**-Oh dear what actually happened to this book? It started off a cool space opera then devolved into a mess of craziness"Maybe it had been noble, but all I can see is how the stars aren't real."
67.Song of Scarabaeus-****-I'm ready to fangirl over this book it was so awesome - I really love how to character drama wasn't shoved in your face, wasn't forced but was still so absorbing. The Serenity/Enslaved:Odyssey to the West plot was awesome"Don't let me out of your sight."
The only book I finished this year which had no irredeemable qualities was BloodlinesCity of Fallen Angels,Gentlemen Prefer Succubiand Fantasy Lover belong in the 'what was I thinking?' pile too
I had a few more poor reads but they all had something about them that made it worth it, these ones not so
66.The Waste Lands-**-I'm still not convinced. Some of it was really good, but too much was dull (view spoiler)
65.The Picture of Dorian Gray-****- Beautifully written. I found Lord Henry fascinating as he manipulates Dorian"By the way Dorian," he said after a pause, "what does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose - how does the quotation run? - his own soul?"
My favourites have been:
I'd say the best was probably A Wise Man's Fear - it was incredibly well written, kept my interest consistently, had characters to die for and was just all round fantastic
Most surprising was Double Cross - I was not expecting it to be as good as it was!
Can't say I've had as good a year as last (which has some of my favourites reads ever) but I've definitely found some amazing books :-)
He's fun as a character but too perfect (love how he plays world of warcraft and paints her nails) but it means there's nowhere for him to go64. Head Rush-****-I've been dying to read this ever since the twist at the end of book 2 (amazing!) and it doesn't disappoint
"Hold up!" he calls out. "I have to tell you something! Midcity is purchasing the Great Wall of China!"
63.Serpent's Kiss-***-Rune arrived a full on well rounded, pretty much perfect guy and it was boring because of that!!"Falling in love was such a lonely business."
62. Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale-**-An update of the classic, I expected more to be honest-a fleshing out of motives etc
61.Between the Sea and Sky-****-I love updated fairytale's (is that right? modern writing but set in olde worlds) and this was so sweet
60.Goddess of the Sea-**-You know life is stressing you out when all you feel like reading is mermaid books lol
59.In Over Her Head-***- This book was just SILLY! But I needed that right now. And it had mermaids"God save me from knights in shining armour"
I'm really looking forward to how the series progresses, the world could prove to be Very interesting
58. Heart of Steel-*****- I love you Archimedes, even if you do wear lime green waistcoats"Goddammit. Can't I save you just once?"
