Japanese author Haruki Murakami has 1,6 milj. goodreads ratings. Is he well-known and valid for this choice?

definitely! :)

We'll be reading Survivors Club: The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz

Find a book from your "shelf" that is "sweet." It can be a sweet story, have something sweet on the cover, have "sweet" in the title or author name, or any other interpretation you want to create to make it "sweet"

3. Author Read - Wildly Popular
Choose any book to read by an author that is very popular, meaning everyone has heard of the author you select.

19519 Crumb.....once you show interest in taking this on, Sandi will link your name to your original post #32. So when you get into this thread, you go to her post #3, find your name, click on it, and it takes you to your post #32
If you want to follow others, just click their name to see what/how they are doing and it will take you to their post.

Then you can edit your post as you go. In the bottom right corner of your post you will see the option to "edit"

The idea is to find a book related to each square, not necessarily find the word in your reading - I like a challenge but that would be impossible! For example the word hygge....maybe you read a cozy mystery, or maybe you read a book that made you feel comfort, or maybe you read a book by the fireplace or on the beach - someplace that made you feel warmth, coziness, happiness.

Some people choose books ahead of time for the squares, then add the dates read once completed.
Others, like me, read a book, then find a place for it to fit a square.

Hope this helps!

19519 Don't forget......anyone can become a member's choice pick, just show your interest here, you never know when your name will come up.
I'll do it this way as long as we have interested members, it doesn't have to stop with 2018

19519 Find a book from your actual or virtual shelf that is:
new to you (maybe you got it as a gift),
new to your "shelf" (maybe recently added),
has the word "new" in the title, author name, locale,
is a new release,
or any other interpretation you want to create to make it "new"

Let us know what you're reading and what makes it new!

19519 Welcome to Obscure Word Bingo!

This year the object is to read a book that matches the obscure word on the Bingo board.
To make it a bit easier on you, the obscure words are listed below, alphabetically, with their definitions. Some words you may have heard before, but I’m hoping most are new to you! Otherwise this might be a draffish (worthless) challenge!
A lot of this is open for interpretation, so filling your squares may be based on how you felt about a book, the topic of the book, a character in the book etc. Other words are more straightforward.

The Rules:
1. Begins Jan 1, 2018, ends Dec 31, 2018. Books read before or after those dates do not count.

2. Create as many bingos as possible, ideally covering the whole board by year-end.

3. There’s no free space. All 25 squares have an obscure word for you to match to.

4. A book can only match to one square. Each square has to be a different title.

5. Keep us updated in this thread how you're doing and what you're reading to cover your squares.

6. Have a eellogofusciouhipoppokunurious (good) time!

19519 1. Member's Choice - Sandi
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo won the poll.

2. Off the Shelf: Something New
Off the Shelf is making a change, this year it will always be
"something ________" with a different word each month to fill in the blank. And it will be open to interpretation to help you get even more books off your shelf/pile/list.

For "Something New" to kick us off in January, find a book from your "shelf" that is new to you (maybe you got it as a gift), that is new to your "shelf" (maybe recently added), that has the word "new" in the title, author name, locale, that's a new release, or any other interpretation you want to create to make it "new"

3. Author Read - Jennifer Haigh

19519 Merry Christmas Everyone!
Wishing you all health, happiness and hope.

Changes are coming for 2018, we'll have a new Bingo card, off the shelf is changing, and Member's Choice has changed too. We may be doing author reads a little differently from time to time as well. And a new Jabber Jaws thread will start with the new year. Trying to keep things fresh around here!
So stay tuned this coming week for the roll out of some new stuff to kick us off for 2018!

Peace!
