16821 Something Carol said on BNC sent me over here to read this thread. I read Under The Dome over my Christmas break. I wanted some uninterrupted time for it, and boy am I glad I gave myself that time. It's a huge book and I finished in in about four days.

I was intrigued with thinking about how I would behave in such a situation. I'm not sure it would always be pretty, but I'd like to hope I'd be strong enough to rebel against the negative forces and not simply remain quiet. I wasn't sure how I felt about the ending so I was glad to see your perspectives. You've made me think more positively about the source of the dome.

16821 Thanks for the welcome guys. No guarantee that I'll get here often. Work is so stressful, but this is a release for me, so I do try to come and play when I can.

16821 I've been absent from this board for a while, and I'm just going to jump in, so please forgive me if I'm not really on topic here. It looks like you are discussing year end book totals. I'll be around 55 this year, which is typical for me. I'll read several books a week in the summer, but I slow way down during the school year. I have Under the Dome and I'm saving it for Christmas break....coming up in a week!

Oh I agree totally. I felt he should have been convicted the first time, and when he was able to buy that boy off I was disgusted. When he was arrested the second time I remember thinking "finally". I was stunned that he skated the second time too. I was always concerned for Michael's own children.

I see far too much abuse of children in my job. It is sickening to hear and see first hand what people do to kids. It is also sickening to see how many parents and others get away with it. I can get going on a real rant about the system and what happens to children all the time, but this isnt't the place.

Having said that, I will stand by my feeling that he had a non-existant childhood and that led to lonliness and horrible choices. I guess I was being a little circumspect in my statement in my post. Do I think he was mentally ill? Yes. I just wish someone could have intervened when he was a child, but the power of money surrounding him was too strong.

That echos my feelings perfectly Carol. Jan O'Cat also expressed some of my same feelings when she said As sad as his death is, I thought of him as a tortured soul. As long as his children will be protected and taken care of, it's good that he's been released from his troubles. I thought of him as a most intensely lonely person. He seemed to be seeking to create a childhood he was denied, and it led him to some very questionable decisions. I hope he is at peace and I hope his children will be ok.

16821 Claudia said: I'm thinking about cancelling HBO and it's series too. I just don't watch it eough to make it worth my while, and I can get all the shows later on DVD through Netflix.

I've been debating about HBO too. It would lower my cable bill significantly. I rarely watch it, and I'm addicted to Netflix, so why have it? Probably for the same reason I finish every book I start even if I'm skimming..........I might miss something good.

16821 Oh my goodness, I'm just catching up on posts and I find this wonderful group of wishes! Thanks so much eveyrone! I got so busy with the end of the year stress at school that I wasn't getting to GR much at all.

I did have a nice day. Best of all, my new [4 months:] granddaughter came up from Lexington to visit. I hope to see much more of her over the summer, but any time I get is the best.

Thanks again everyone!

Oh gosh, I catch up on House during the summer, but I've just read the spoilers. Greystone Park? I used to live near there too and just the name gives me shivers.

16821 I'm definately a one at a time reader. I am usually too involved in a book to want to split my time with another bunch of characters.
