Wow, he's unexpectedly been writing books at an essentially normal author-rate for the last decade. And I'd actually feared at one point that Against the Day was his big send-off and closing-of-accounts.
V and Against the Day are my favorites as well, but it's been the longest since I read Gravity's Rainbow, and so should probably re-read. But I think V is perfect to start with: deals with most of his stylistic and thematic concerns but in a more direct and clearly-mapped manner than later.
I think a lot of the AtD wiki was transcribed from the Chumps of Choice group read, actually. Both were definitely useful as a follow-up to my own reading, though they were decidedly thin in certain mid-late stretches when I last checked.
