An Ode to Simon ArmitageHe has accepted the laurel mantle,
A worthy successor
To Southey and Tennyson
And the other laureates
Of the past.
And a true son of Apollo,
God of the arts.
Just the year after his appointment,
And the world is stricken
By the covid plague.
Let us hope
That he survives it
And continues to weave
His webs of words.
