The Trials of Marjorie Crowe by C.S. Robertson
Great blurb. Poor execution. Outlier review.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen
Pretty good, as long as you go in with the right expectations. Romantasy + Steam + some not-so-scary zombies.

Poor Deer by Claire Oshetsky
Oshetsky's imagination and descriptive writing are on excellent display in this literary fiction.

This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel
A 2017 release, but luckily, Macmillan made the audio available on NetGalley. Loved this beautiful family drama so much!

The Lady Thief of Belgravia by Allison Grey
Oh, My. God! I can't believe I had a 1 star this early in the year and I don't even give out 1 stars that often! This was horrible!

An Enchanted Moment on Ever After Street by Jaimie Admans
I read romances mainly when this author writes them. She creates settings like no one else. Found a new favourite from her works.

Isaac and the Egg by Bobby Palmer is a quirky but moving book about loss and grief as Isaac meets a strange egg creature who ..."I loved this book! :)
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
Succumbed to the hype, and found the book match up to a great extent. A fun cat-and-mouse story, though a bit slow-paced to be a true thriller.

All the Ways We Lied by Aida Zilelian
Loved the Armenian and the dysfunctional family bits, but the final section messes up the whole experience.

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
Enjoyed this sequel to the Emily Wilde series. A great read for cosy fantasy fans, but in the right series order.

Happy New Year, everyone!Ended 2023 with two mixed historical fiction reads.
1. Dinner with Churchill by Robin Hawdon
A great book in the first half, but went on a downwards spiral in the second half. The postscript killed it entirely. But the Churchill-related historical research is excellent.

2. The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok
Might have worked better for me had it not been marketed as a mystery-thriller and had the plotting been tighter.

The Stark Beauty of Last Things: A Novel by Celine Keating
A mixed bag for me. Loved the core theme, but didn't enjoy the clutter and the slow pace.

Kinfolk by Sean Dietrich
Loved almost everything about this Southern historical fiction.

Illuminating Darwin: Arabella's Light by Jill George
An indie historical work focussing on the life of Arabella Buckley, one of the few female science popularizers of the 19th century.

The Memories of Marlie Rose by Morgan Lee Miller
An interesting story about a woman who chooses to have certain memories removed. The novel works to a great extent.

Thanks for being so welcoming here! Wish you all a peaceful advent season, a blessed Christmas, and wonderful 2024! 💚
Inspirational Wink and the Altogether Extraordinary Notebook by Delaney Evers
A fun cosy fantasy adventure with an older protagonist. Quite an enjoyable ride. Still up for request on Netgalley, if anyone wants to give it a try.

The Year of Goodbyes and Hellos by Kelly Irvin
A mixed bag for me, though it has its moments. The main character lowered my reading experience, as did the narrators.

The Unspeakable Acts of Zina Pavlou by Eleni Kyriacou
A historical crime drama based on an actual incident in the 1950s. I had a great time reading this.

A Different Kind of Gone by Catherine Ryan Hyde
I am an outlier for this one, though CRH's books usually work for me.
