She's wildly popular and she is good at writing witty banter. She will occasionally write characters that are really self-absorbed, but still supposed to be likeable and I struggle with not being able to have a chat with them. "I'm sure you're a lovely person, but did it occur to you to think of anyone else in the room?" 😂😂
I didn't get very far in her new one. I just hope it's not going down that path. I will try to adjust my attitude. 😊

I read the first little bit of Great Big Beautiful Life and wasn't immediately feeling it, but I'll come back to it this weekend. I think I just wanted something a bit faster paced today. Has anyone else started it?
Melindam wrote: "Unfortunately not.BOM books need to be read during the challenge."
Thanks. I will vote for new to me books then. :)

(Maybe this is just Instacart shoppers. I hope someone out there laughs at this.)
BOM question: I have already read some of the books being nominated. If I participate in the discussion, will we still get points? Even if I don't read the book during the challenge?
Technical issues update:Well friends...it would appear that some construction down the road has impacted the availability of Internet for my neighborhood. 😂 Not really sure what's going on, but I'm guessing they cut the fiber. I have access to public Wi-Fi right at the moment, so if it's ok... I'll plan to update the spreadsheet with several upcoming reads, but not claim tasks for the minis unless I'm currently reading it.
If I'm limited to phone use for ?? hopefully just a few days??, I think it will be easier to have the books loaded, linked, etc and just type in the mini number and flip it to "read."
It's so important to try to keep minor inconveniences in perspective, but this is pretty inconvenient for people who work from home AND DO GOODREADS CHALLENGES. 🤣
This too shall pass.
The publisher and Goodreads are calling it her debut novel, but there are hundreds of other choices if it's making people uncomfortable.

Interesting... This is from the book description:
"The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo meets First Lie Wins in this electric, voice-driven debut novel about an elusive bestselling author who decides to finally confess her true identity after years of hiding from her past."
Maybe because her other books are non-fiction and not novels?
I'm guessing this won't work, but I finished The Three Lives of Cate Kay tonight. It's a debut novel.
I just had a ton of library holds come in at the same time. Now we play that fun game of "Take some back? Or read like it's an Olympic sport?"1650 on my tbr. I should probably read like it's an olympic sport.

I'm experiencing some technical difficulties today. Not sure if it's GR or local Internet being super spotty. I'm reading this book that was published in 2024. Dog Day Afternoon (Hardcover) I'll try to add it, but I am struggling.I got it added, but not linked. And I've finished two books...if I could just get GR to behave!
You guys finished a whole cheese tower while I was gone! Whoa - I'm impressed!I have some catching up to do...
Hello all-- just saying hi. It was an absolutely perfect day today after a rainy start to our short getaway. Read lots on day 1. Read 0 pages today. 😂 I'll wait to attempt the spreadsheets until I'm back at a computer. I hope you all enjoy the weekend!
Love the cheese challenge. Nicely done! (and might I suggest my childhood favorite, Gjetost, as a nice throwing cheese...)
I'm flying to the mountains tomorrow, so I may not check in as much. We'll see what cell reception is like. I'm not taking a computer--that defeats the purpose of going to the mountains. :) I'll be back on Sunday. I do plan to get some good reading done.
