DQs Day 1Ch 1 to 7
1.) Have you read other books by Alix E Harrow? Was this on your tbr list before it was a BOM selection? Any expectations going in?
I haven't read any of her other books. This book definitely wasn't on my tbr before it was chosen as BOM. I don't typically read this genre unless it's for a challenge. I just hope that this books holds my interest and I don't have to struggle through it.
2.) Did you read the footnotes as you went along? Find them helpful? Annoying?
I didn't even notice there were footnotes. I'm going to have to go back and find them to see what I've been missing.
3.) The discussion of E.Starling's book being too scary for children reminded me of some interviews with M.Sendalk when the Where the Wild Things movie came out several years ago about books, etc that scare children (when children are the target audience). His response was basically children should be scared sometimes and there's nothing wrong with that. And has further said, it's better to have a book full of fears than one pretending there's nothing to be afraid of. What are your thoughts on this topic?
I think that reading different kinds of books even scary ones, opens up our brains to think differently. I personally don't like horror books but I will try them because it gives my brain something else to think about. Also, having a discussion with kids about the scary topics helps to take away some of the fears.
4.) What are your thoughts so far on Eden and Starling House? Has the author done a good job so far of creating an atmosphere and setting for a good gothic story?
I think the author is doing a great job of creating the atmosphere for the house. I can see why a person would want to know more about Starling House.
5.) Any favorites so far in our motley cast of characters? Opal, Arthur, Jasper, Bev, and Starling House.
I want to know more about Jasper.

I also put that twist in the back of my mind and went that makes sense when I read it.

I'm currently hanging out in District 11. I reread this book this past week and forgot how much that I actually liked it. I have had the opportunity in the past to meet Jennifer Lawerence in the past and I read this book long before I met her. It was fun hearing her voice as I read the book. I really enjoyed the character of Katniss. I've always been her fan. I think I now need to watch the movie again to see how closely the book matches with the movie because it's been so long.
I haven't been able to start Salt and Broom yet so I'm saving it for this weekend. I did get Hunger Games finished this week so I'll get all that updated. Vacation was fun and I chose to read fast steamy romance books because I wanted quick things for planes/train/travel days. I'm going to get all those books added today.
I'm popping in! I'll get my little books updated that I've read this week. We are about to go on family vacation and will be back on Thursday. I'll be able to read while I'm gone but I might be coming in Friday to update. I'm not taking my computer. We are going to NYC and Baltimore for some baseball and sightseeing.
I had to get the audio version of the BOM but I plan on starting to listen to it tomorrow. I have some random books that I need to read over the next week-ish so I also understand reading books for challenges. I have a couple things to read that I'm like, how did I get myself into that again? I'm just slightly competitive.
1. Favorite fruit? Blueberries2. Favorite vegetable? Broccoli
3. Favorite grain/seed? We have been doing farro some lately and I'm liking it. I also go to wild rice a lot.
4. Favorite flower? Tiger Lilys
5. Favorite tree? The kind that doesn't make me sneeze!? Maybe Christmas trees ;)
6. Favorite animal? Elephant
7. Favorite nut? Almonds
8. Do you enjoy gardening? No, grass makes me sneeze and I'd rather pay someone to play in the dirt instead.
I'm catching up. This week just went slightly crazy. I'll probably read the Hunger Games series again to get extra points. I'm not a huge planner weeks ahead but more of a go week by week so I'll figure out my first couple of books this weekend that I'll start next week.
Hey everyone!! I'm Anna (she/her) and live in Southern Indiana. I've played with some of you before and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. This was a crazy week at work because this part of the country celebrates the Kentucky Derby. I'm married and we have one dog. I work in an outpatient medical clinic Monday-Friday. I do have a couple trips coming up during this challenge but I should be able to work around those. I love romance and contemporary books the most especially sports romance books. I don't love sci-fi or horror but can read them if I need to. I'm pretty competitive so I try to get the BOM's read if I can get my hands on them and haven't read them before. I've read all the HG books and seen the books. It's been awhile for me that I've read them, maybe even before my goodreads days so I may bring them back out this challenge. Happy holidays everyone! Thanks to the captains for keeping us all in line and thanks for being such a fun team.
Thanks! I was coming on here to get things updated and I have two more books to add and one is an O but could be used somewhere else if needed.
Okay, I added three books that I'll get done before the end of the round. I'm going out of town tomorrow night and won't have my computer so I may need someone to add read dates when I finish them but with travel time, I'll definitely get them done.
Scratch that post! Thanks for adding my books. :) I should get one if not two more read before the end of the round.
I was on a reading roll this week so I was able to read more than usual and put them all on there but next week I know that I won't have as many. My goal this weekend is to finish some random books that I need for things and I can find another U if we still need one.
I just finished a U book also. I don't normally put books on spreadsheets because I'm not that strong of a planner but I read a lot of books. I'll try to keep an eye out for books and certain letters.
Hey everyone! I'm Anna and looking forward to playing with old friends and new ones. I have had limited internet this past weekend so I'm just now coming in to get everything caught up. I live in Southern Indiana with my husband and one dog. I love romance books the best and don't really like horror/space/sci-fi but will read for challenges and points. My wheel shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
