29443 I tend to agree that an educated hero/heroine isn't necessary for me to enjoy the story. I love reading stories where the H or h make it in spite of their lack of education. And yes, you can be self-educated.

That said, I like hero and heroine to have a brain. They don't have to have the formal education but I want them to want to improve themselves. Books and schools are great for learning but sometimes hands-on experience is better. I have found that for myself I tend to pick up on things better with the hands-on approach rather than trying to read about it.

29443 Do you care how educated your hero/heroine is? Is a college education important in books? These days more and more people are furthering their education by attending college or technical schools. But does it really matter in the stories we read?
29443 I agree with IMHO. The heroes are MINE. There are a few heroines that I've connected with to a degree but mostly they are just convenient conduits. I often put myself in the heroine's place.
29443 I admit kids can put a damper on things at times in stories. Especially the sex. Some authors will write in some weird ways to get the kids out of the picture. Too convenient for me.
29443 If done right I love kids in the story. If the kids are portrayed realistically. Kids are not always perfect angels so I perfer not to read them but I hate major brats too. A parent who can't control their child turns me off.

29443 I like epilogues. There may be one or two in the past that didn't add much to the story but I like going to a future point in the couple's lives and seeing how they are doing. Especially some special event like a birth or marriage. There have been a few books that ended on more of a HFN (Happily For Now) note that I felt needed an epilogue to let us know they had their HEA (Happily Ever Atfer).

I understand how an epilogue might not work so much in certain series that continue the story line anyway. (i.e. Virgin River series by Robyn Carr).

29443 I enjoy a level of toughness but not too much. I agree, too, I don't like the heroine to be so tough she can't or won't listen to anyone.
