I think we all have standards on how our hero should look. Obviously, we wouldn't want a 5'2" humpback hero with a bad case of dandruff with bad allergies and wipes his nose on his sleeve constantly. But we are willing to forgo the Hollywood good looks at times. ☺
Love them KA uber alpha men!Going with Maximus Batten, Duke of Wakefield from Elizabeth Hoyt's Duke of Midnight
No, the hero doesn't have to be drop dead gorgeous but sometimes it sure is nice :) As long as the heroine feels some sort of attraction to the hero then it'll work. I remember the hero in Lord of Scoundrels was not attractive but it worked.
I think the rating would be affected if I couldn't like the characters. In fact, I doubt I could read the book if I hated them too much. There are a lot of older bodice rippers that I hated the jerky hero that I lowered the rating because of them. I'm usually a little more tolerant of the heroine but again if she is too annoying it will affect the rating.
If I'm honest with myself, then, no, I don't think I could. I'm not the type who can handle too much excitement. I love reading them but not to actually live them.
