25350 I keep wondering if we are going to have another "21" game show scandal..like in 1950's when game shows were all the craze until it was revealed that they were faked (see great movie Quiz Show)...with about 500 reality shows on a week...seems like there should be an FCC rule in which they are required to post a CLEAR DISCLAIMER to viewers explaining which parts are staged, re-enactments ect... though I do not hold out much hope as the entertainment lobby which is raking in millions from these shows must have quite a bit of influence in Washington. It would take a politician who actually cares about serving their constituents to take action... hey..another great "reality" show..."DC POLITICS"

I watch it too..read that it is staged..but unlike Pawn Stars..whose shop now has about 60% of the "merchandise" show related stuff (Tee-shirts, coffee mugs ect) Les Gold has a real pawn shop going..just the televised parts are apparently staged as someone who was in the store during filming blogged that after a particularly vicious fight with a "customer" ..someone yelled "Cut!" and everyone, including "customer" started smiling and laughing..forgot where I read that - but can google Hardcore Pawn fake and I guess it will come up. Still enjoy the show as simply that..a show.

Storage Wars is unwatchable to me...feel bad for those foolish enough to buy into it and spend money they dont have to buy storage lockers thinking they will find a "hidden treasure"..have a "WAIT A MINUTE..WHAT IS THIS!!" cue to commercial ..moment.

great story about Mary Martin...my Dad worked for NBC in NY..and NBC was showing Peter Pan ..so Mary Martin came in to where my father worked..to look at the show before it aired..there were three small screening rooms near his office. My oldest brother Mike (he was about 8 at the time) had gone to work with my father. He apparently wandered into the screening room while Mary Martin was watching the program. After it ended, my father went looking for my brother and heard singing coming from the screening room..he went in only to find Mike on Mary Martin's lap, and her singing all the songs from Peter Pan to him!!

Pawn Stars- loved it for the first few episodes- yet when it became a huge hit-- and the "characters" starting staging mini sitcoms (Chumley has to learn how to use Skype) show faded for me..still watch at times but annoying except for Boss Rick who seems like a genuinly nice guy.."The Old Man" seems like a real Pr..k... and from what I read..not an act!!

Now Gold Rush..I must say I enjoy that show quite a bit

On the flip side D.L. (and I agree 100% with your post) I am put off when writers use too much descriptive language about a character(do I need to know exactly how many nose hairs the character has!..being satiric here!) but seriously, when a writer tries to over describe each and every character, location ect..it really slows down the story.

Exactly...the "No Spin Zone" will never give a "non-spin" response to a very simple question...."Exactly how much of the research and writing of the two books in question did Martin Dugard complete and how much did the TV Host complete?" Simple question.. will never get an amswer

No doubt there is more to that awful event than "official" explaination...one book I will not read on subject is Killing Kennedy by MARTIN DUGARD...EVEN THOUGH A CERTAIN TALK SHOW HOST KEEPS CLAIMING CREDIT referring to it as "my new book" Love to know just how much of Killing Lincoln and Kennedy books..... "with" ..Martin Dugard researched and wrote and how much O'Reilly actually wrote???

Just dislike celebrities who "write" books and almost NEVER mention the "with" author who actually wrote the book..not saying this is case with O'Reilly..but love to know just how much he actually wrote and researched himself compared to his "with" writer Martin Dugard Killing Lincoln The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly Killing Kennedy The End of Camelot by Bill O'Reilly

BOOKS BY MARTIN DUGARD ALONE....A TRUE HISTORIAN

Into Africa The Epic Adventures of Stanley and Livingstone by Martin Dugard The Last Voyage of Columbus Being the Epic Tale of the Great Captain's Fourth Expedition, Including Accounts of Mutiny, Shipwreck, and Discovery by Martin Dugard Farther Than Any Man The Rise and Fall of Captain James Cook by Martin Dugard The Training Ground Grant, Lee, Sherman, and Davis in the Mexican War, 1846-1848 by Martin Dugard Surviving the Toughest Race on Earth by Martin Dugard

They both captured the essence of the book. And I always think that's more important than all the events in the book."

agree 100% on They Shoot Horses, Don't They...excellent film..the leads were so so, but Gig Young was brilliant and won a well deserved Oscar. Did you know he was originally cast in the lead by Mel Brooks in Blazing Saddles, but during the first day of shooting he suffered a major case of the DTs (Young was alcoholic) and was replaced with Gene Wilder.
Tragically, a few years later, Young shot and killed his young wife and himself. very sad
