Ugh!!!
Yesterday, while enduring hours at Newark Airport due to a delayed flight, I spent some time in the airport bookshop and on impulse bought Middlemarch. A novel I have wanted to read for years. Some 200 pages in, I see why it is considered one of the all time classics! Elliot is amazing at creating memorable characters and dialogue.

Exactly Bryan. It was the kind of film that made you laugh..and then made you think.."what on earth was I laughing at??" It was like a SNL skit that was funny for a few minutes in a very juvenile way. Utterly one note all the way and it got very old very quick
I just saw Ted, a film I was quite curious to see. After a promising first 20 minutes, it really dissolved into a rather one note comedy. A good idea poorly executed.
I strongly recommend this superb book on Kit Carson and the Western expansion. Extremely well written.
Barbara wrote: "I'm listening to the audio book of The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov. I rarely read science fiction but I saw it at the library and checked it out on impulse. It's supposed to be a science fictio..."never read Asimov, I know he is an icon of SF, and will probably read his magnus opus
I must make note of the 1957 film..The Sun Also Rises.
A superb adaption of the Hemingway novel..and a terrific performance by Errol Flynn in one of his final films as well as Eddie Albert
One of my favorite comedies from the 1980's is finally out on bluray..Sixteen Candles. What a perfect 1980's flick!(also the final film of Edward Andrews.a marvelous character actor in so many films)

I submit to you that 1931's Frankenstein remains one of the great film adaptions. Karloff of course but also Colin Clive's mesmerizing performance as Victor Frankenstein. The sequel Bride of Frankenstein was also brilliant in a more comic manner.
