Just finished the book the other day. It started out slow/uninteresting for me, but I stuck with it, and ended up enjoying it.It was really interesting to look at the project from the eyes of the children, even though it was more about friendship and family then about the project.
I was expecting to read about the reaction to the bombings. It would have been interesting to see if those characters that were defending it continued to do so.
I finished as well. Same with the ending for me. I actually felt like most of the war and everything after was rushed compared to the beginning. It was just okay for me. Something about it kept me from really getting into it.
Hahaha. At 10 now, heading into more before bed. I am really enjoying it now. just that bump in the courtship bits.
I am liking it more now that they are at Mount Vernon. I think the courtship scenes just felt cheesy to me.
Finished this last week, and really enjoyed it. I have never read a memoir that was written in this way, and it hooked me. Her poems transported me to the places and surroundings she described.
I am only 80 pages in, but so far I am not loving it. I actually enjoyed it more before George showed up. 😕
