I had the same problem with my reading over Christmas, just getting back into the swing of things now. Two very interesting posts Mike. I quite liked this statement; "Appeasement is indivisibly associated with Chamberlain, its most obdurate proponent, although many rats had to get off the sinking ship to leave the captain in such splendid isolation."

Check out the numerous books by David Stahel on the Eastern Front:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Some other titles to consider are:
Barbarossa by Alan Clark
Scorched Earth: The Russian-German War 1943-1944 by Paul Carell
The First Day on the Eastern Front: Germany Invades the Soviet Union, June 22, 1941 by Craig W.H. Luther
Barbarossa: How Hitler Lost the War by Jonathan DimblebySome that I am yet to read:
War Without Garlands: Operation Barbarossa 1941-42 by Robert Kershaw
Barbarossa Unleashed: The German Blitzkrieg Through Central Russia to the Gates of Moscow - June-December 1941 by Craig W.H. Luther
Soldiers of Barbarossa: Combat, Genocide, and Everyday Experiences on the Eastern Front, June-December 1941 by Craig W.H. Luther
I hope you enjoy the book Randy. I am waiting for the third volume to be published :)
The War in the West: Volume 1: The Rise of Germany, 1939-1941 by James Holland
Great summary Alex, thanks for that. I just realized that I have a copy of the book; "Monty and Rommel - Parallel Lives" that I haven't read yet. I have five of his WW2 books and that is the only one that's unread.
OK, how about this line up for 2023:Feb. - The end of the Guadalcanal campaign and/or Battle of the Bismarck Sea
April - Warsaw Uprising and/or partisan/resistance Ops.
June - Kursk 1943 or Sicily and/or Italian campaign.
Aug. - Allied Air Ops during 1943.
Oct. - Tarawa
Dec. - Members choice
OK folks, time for a few ideas for some 2023 theme reads. There are a few 80th anniversaries we could cover:Feb. - The end of the Guadalcanal campaign.
April - Warsaw Uprising
June - Kursk 1943 and/or Sicily
Aug. - Italian campaign
Oct. - Tarawa
Dec. - Members choice
Any other ideas or suggestions?
