Due to his duty as god of protection Thor is naturally stronger and faster than most. Few can best his strength such as his father.

But should he try to start a fight his strength and speed are equal to that of a human warrior

-Able to create lightning and thunder at will:
His footsteps and laughter are said to bring forth thunder and lightning although this is true it is his approach and will that bring forth the storms. storms which are know to make the earth fertile for those to grow food and give life.

Without his hammer the storms often times rage out of control. The lightning and thunder that he is normally able to summon fizzle out on the worst days when his sadness is too great to bare.

-Mythical Hammer:
A gift to him from the dwavers, mjölnir is able to create massive blast of thunder and strike foes down with lightning. No living being may lift the hammer unless they are worthy; it returns to the exact spot from which it is thrown and returns to Thor when summoned. Indestructible in every way. However during his exile he was not in possession of it. It currently awaits him the great hall of Valhalla.

Thor's other treasures also included a magical belt that doubled his strength whenever he wore it and a pair of goats, Tanngniost and Tanngrisni (both "Toothgnashers"), that pulled his chariot across the sky. The chariot has long since been destroyed and the goats now graze eternally in the halls of Valhalla. While the belt rest inside a star.

Thor has lived for thousands of years and has battled countless giants, trolls, and demons in defense of Asgard. There is really only a few other Aesir that can claim to have this much experience in battle.

As an Aesir, Thor inherits a moderate deal of physical invulnerability and resistance to magic

Thor, as with all Aesir warriors, can undergo a change in personality known as "Warriors Madness". In this state, Thor's already devastating strength is increased ten-fold, making him virtually unstoppable.

The downside to this change is that he loses control of his better judgement and becomes a danger to any allies around him.

Once he was a loud and joyous god, always first to laugh always first to join in a drink. With conviction in his words and his head held high Thor would accept any challenge. The opponent may have been bigger and stronger yet Thor always came out winning. If his opponent wasn't killed in the fight he would befriend them and off a helping hand and some mead. There was a time when enjoyed the smiling children as they would jump on him to see how strong he truly was. Not entirely care free he would take one day at a time with a smile. No longer, he is broken in ways most would not understand. Hollow if one would say. The smile that once left cheer in others has long since faded into a sadness so deep it wasn't a surprise for his departure from Asgard. Where once his coming was the herald of a life giving storm for the lands now it barely made even a drop.

Hɪsᴛᴏʀʏ﹕
Once he was a god known for bringing the storm whether it be in the form of laughter or in the swing of his hammer. Thor was true to his nature protector of the weak, worshiped and loved by most rarely ever hated for his beliefs. During this time Thor spent most of his time in other realms mostly fighting the giants that threatened Asgard. When not engaged in battle Thor spent countless trips in midgard often times having to fight Jormungand, the enormous sea serpent who encircles Midgard. The serpent was well known for being an enemy of only Thor. On one such trip to Midgard Thor met a woman who begged for protection from a frost giant that managed its way into the area. As was his duty Thor defeated the giant easily enough but found he was stricken with love for this woman. He couldn't bare to be away from her so much that he spent a year with her. He would learn far to late the price of love. It was on a late evening when a challenge had caused him to go into the warrior's madness.

Yet that was a long time ago before tragedy struck the god down, casting him into a storm he had no control over. In an instant a woman he cared for,loved, was killed. A child, demigod, was born but by then the failure had corrupted the god of thunder. It was no surprise when he announced his self imposed exile. No, no surprise at all. The surprise came when he cast down his hammer in the center of the great hall of Valhalla.

His father Odin was enraged by such an act yet shared in his son's sadness. Thus began the mourning time of Thor. Upon leaving Asgard he was allowed to choose any realm to travel to. His choice Niflheim. Once there he sought out Hel to ask for some sort of solace no matter how small and how little it would help. Days turned to weeks turned to months turned to years. It was whispered that Thor was gone for good never to return again and his hammer would stay where it rested till Ragnorok came.

Years later rumors of a man in Midgard roaming around helping the weak began to surface. From defending a child from ravenous wolves to saving an entire burning village. Somehow Thor had managed to leave Niflheim and take up his duty once more. The sadness that still held him had only weakened slightly. All the while he was still unaware of the child, the demigod he had fathered. It was on the advice of Hel that he eventually return to Asgard. Not only to take back what was his, which he thought was his hammer but in truth was his child.

Perhaps her being a demigod gives her small access to the warriors madness

The death of the mother could be because thor was forced into the warrior's madness and she was harmed by him thus causing her death

I added the fight with the midgard serpent in the history and a bit on the death of the woman he loved history should be finished I know there are a crap ton of myths but seeing as this version is based after his self imposed exile should I add them?

But demigods usually have one parent being a god
So perhaps the mother was killed and Thor was unable to protect her thus he goes into exile and seeks out Hel for some sort of solace
