180652 Like I predicted I didn't get a lot of reading done in the last week. Work has been hectic and things aren't looking much better for some time.

In the Land of Leadale, Vol. 4 by Ceez -3 Stars
This was some fluffy comfortable reading with more comfy vibes from this world. If you ignore that one little section where it turned into a body horror at random. Yeah, that was a random moment of oddly horrifying and yet it wasn't gory at all. There are more hints at bigger things and future reveals to come. Just a fun little read.

Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher -4 Stars
I've been meaning to reread the Dresden series for a long time now but I just never got around to it. I've also heard that James Marsters narration of the series was pretty solid. Combine that with this helping for a challenge I needed to get done this month and I essentially had a perfect reason to start this. I originally read this probably a decade or more ago when I was just getting back into the reading scene. It's not a five star like I originally ranked it but it's still a pretty solid entry as a book. Knowing how the series progresses, other reading experiences, etc just kind of highlight how basic this story is. It still works and it's a great introduction to the world of Dresden but at the same time it's kind of basic. There is also the talk of misogyny in the book and yeah, I can kind of see it. I'm not one to decide what is right or wrong for someone but for me it doesn't feel malicious and feels more like a vibe. Kind of that old school noir mystery kind of vibe that I felt throughout the novel. I'm eager to continue reading this series and maybe get to some of those new books that came out.

Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 03 (Hunter x Hunter, #3) by Yoshihiro Togashi Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 04 (Hunter x Hunter, #4) by Yoshihiro Togashi -4 Stars
Maybe it was just the mood I was in but these books just clicked with this time and I had a great time reading through them. Seeing Gon training to overcome a massive obstacle, the relationship between characters, etc. It was just all working for me.

Berserk Deluxe Edition Volume 9 by Kentaro Miura -5 Stars
More glorious Berserk. It's a heavy read for sure but I just love the story and the world.

As for what is next.

On audio I am listening to Moonlight and Magic (Betwixt & Between #4) by Darynda Jones . I might finish this off tomorrow just to be done with it. It's not a horrible book but I'm not exactly loving it either. If you enjoyed the other three books in the series you will likely enjoy this one as well as it's more of the same. After that I'm really not sure at this point. I need to go and find something.

For physical books I'm currently reading through the next couple of volumes of Komi just to relax a bit. I then need to get to The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong (Novel) Vol. 2 by Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù so I can get it back to the library this week. I also have Faithless (Grant County, #5) by Karin Slaughter and a large stack of comics/manga to get through.

180652 Well the counting is done for another six months. I don't drink but after the last couple of days a cold one is mighty tempting right now. I still have to go out this afternoon to do my library run. Since I already walked to work this morning I'm thinking of making a half trip and just getting some pizza on the way back.

180652 There are times where you see a news story and you just want to shut down for the day. That breaks what little faith you might have left in humanity. It involves an assault on a six week old child by her father while the mother did nothing. I won't get into details and I'm not sharing the article but it's the worst kind of assault a father can do to his daughter. I just want to curl up with something fluffy and pretend the world doesn't exist today.

As in the Pauly Shore movie, I'm so sorry but it's the first thing that popped into my head

180652 I am so tired right now. I had my usual hour long walk to work this morning. Then for the inventory I've gotten stuck doing the physical counts and not recording of numbers. Combined that with a rolling ladder and for the last four hours I've been up and down a 40' rolling ladder about 80 billion times so far. That is on top of the crouching to get into the floor locations. I think my legs might actually be dead at this point but the brain just never got the message.

180652 Well, the next couple of days will be "fun". As mentioned before we have one of our two yearly inventory counts starting tomorrow. There has been a bunch of work already done in advance for this but from what I've been hearing it will be a rough count. There are a lot of problems and it has only been getting worse.

180652 I'm tired and this week still has two more days to go, not counting this one. This will not be very shocking but I want to be left alone today for naps and manga.

180652 It's a rather small scene but it was just so unexpected. It also wasn't really gory but it was disturbing. Small spoilers I guess. I won't spoil why they are in the book or anything. (view spoiler)

180652 Well that was an unexpected turn. Up this point everything has been light hearted slice of life shenanigans with some humor mixed in. Start a new chapter and suddenly full on body horror. There was no warning at all for this turn. Honestly it wouldn't even be on the list of things I expected from this series. Well, lets see where this goes.

180652 Well the cold is gone which is nice. Unfortunately all that violent coughing I had has triggered a bought of acid reflux. It's gotten rather bad the last couple of days but I can manage it. It's not at the point where it's affecting my sleep or anything like that. It's mostly just that taste of bile in the back of my throat. I've been taking Pepcid and I'll be changing my diet this week to eat all the bland foods. I should be over this in about a week I think.

The other update is in regards to my walks. In the last couple of weeks I've walked 59km or a little under 37 miles. The morning walks to work are the same as always. I've also added a 5km/3 mile walk on Saturdays as I use that as a way to go to the library. The weather has been super mild this January so it's made my walks easier. I've barely had to break out any cold weather gear this month. That being said I haven't been able to start walking home from work and I'm struggling to go out for a walk on Sundays. During the week I've been at work for 9ish hours or so and I've probably been awake for something like 13ish hours. The thought of an hour walk home in the dark and cold is just no where as appealing as it is in the morning. Yes, I'm a morning person who is at peak energy early in the day. That's why those morning walks are so easy. After 6 in the evening I want to nap and relax before going to bed. As for Sunday I just want to enjoy my final day of freedom before work. I already have to go out for groceries and that takes up 2-3 hours of my day. I think I just to get into the groove in these spots. Even if it's just a short walk around the neighborhood. I think if I can just get into the habit of it then it won't be so bad.
