Frances: I thought that Harold didn't return to London because he wanted to avoid reporters who might have asked about the plans of turning the firm to a public limited company and he'd have to tell them about the status quo i.e,. Josephine's death and all. Even a whiff of scandal would have ruined the chances of success of that venture and so he stayed at the village. That's what I got from the conversation b/w him and the inspector.

BTW, I really liked Harold. I mean an employer who buys a computer which can do the work of 50 people and yet also keeps the fifty people in some other way, deserves respect.

I have started this. It'd be my first Aird, an author who has long been on my reading radar. Was a little apprehensive about it but am enjoying it so far.

Hello! Glad to have found this group as vintage mysteries are my favourite reads. I blog about books but sometimes you really want to chat about the books you have read, spoilers and all, so very happy to see two threads for all books.
