No, some books simply don't work as movies. Or they're very hard to adapt while preserving the "magic" of the book. For example, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Club Dumas, and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy are all great books, but their movie adaptations are just okay. Not terrible movies, but not the kind you'd watch over and over again.
