Book 13 - 1/2 4★

Read mostly in one sitting.
(view spoiler)[I really enjoyed this episode in the Dallas-Roarke saga. They've reached their first wedding anniversary & neither has killed the other, in fact, they're more obsessed with each other than ever. I actually liked seeing Roarke get a somewhat hot under the collar & take a bit of control back from Eve in this one, she usually has it her own way which creates an imbalance in their relationship at times. Of course, he shouldn't have gone to Whitney without telling her, & she shouldn't have "fogotten" to mention Mira's interest to him. That's marriage for you. I do like to see them working together, willingly or otherwise.

A face from Eve's past plays a pivotal role in several murders, a person with a personal vendetta against her, & hers. Peabody is developing well, so well that Eve sets her on an independent cold-case investigation - excellent to see. We also meet the strangely fascinating Peabodys senior - what eerie, mesmerising powers do Delia's parents wield? These Free-agers are slightly uncanny. A deeper look into Eve's childhood runs a horrifying counterpoint to some of the more light-hearted moments. I think there is a little too much dwelling on both Roarke's & Eve's early lives, but it does lead to some very spicy sex scenes - entertaining, if a little over-the-top on occasion.

I would agree with another reviewer that this was more about relationships than crime, but I found it amusing, engaging & easy on the eyes, although I wouldn't want them all to be like this. (hide spoiler)]
