Maybe I was in the wrong frame of mind to read the book but I felt like why should I care about the situation this crazy lady is in.

"I really liked that book. I read it about 7 years ago. Now I want to reread it.
I am jealous that you got to see the actual room! Was the poker still there Martyn?
It saddens me to say it but I won't be able to attend the Dorka this year. I will be moving across the country to start a job and can't show up there and immediately take time off. I am bummed I won't get to see everyone again and also bummed that I won't meet any of the first timers that I have known virtually for the past few years.
There is always Dorka '10. I will be there for that.
I just saw this article about his new 1,000 page novel that is for now only in Japanese but I can't help but be intrigued and hope to see it in English soon.http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/...
I know quite a few of us have read something by him so it seems fitting to have a thread for him.
oh i see what i previously did not Margaret. You need to print out a form and mail it to get just a single issue. I will continue on my quest to purchase it without sending a check!
Thanks for reposting the link Margaret.

Ok, so I was thinking about this today and didn't really remember too much about Wittgenstein in this book, I mean he was talked about and maybe I have a mental block on the book as a whole. There could be a lot of connections through Wittgenstein's philosophy to the book. I have only read his Tractatus and that was years ago (and I didn't really 'get it' then).
Though I sense you meant it in jest Michael I have a feeling that it does have something to do with W's Private Language. I am interested in what your reading and knowledge of W will bring to it.
Also, the book is a fast read if you absolutely hate it, though I am sure you will miss many of the philosophic underpinnings (if there are any).
ok, i looked at the knock website and couldn't figure out how to purchase it. Then I checked Eagle Harbor's site, Powell's and Elliot Bay's site and couldn't get it there. Am I a moron?
Yeah you should have no problem doing 11 pages a day. I averaged about 25 i think. you may run into the problem of not being able to stop reading...
Shel if you are preparing for reading IJ you might be ready in time to get in on this:http://www.infinitesummer.org/
I don't know exactly what the experience is going to be like but the book itself is pretty damn amazing.
So there is this Goodreads group called "Hard Core Chicks" http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...
I was surprised to find something entirely different when conducting a google search for Hard Core Chicks. Time to turn the Moderate safe search filter back on.
Shel wrote: "Well come on guys. That's not really fair... :-)It didn't grab me - the title seemed the best part - but maybe I'm not thinking correctly about it.
Maybe I'm not experimental enough.

Everyone knows I am a pretty big fan of DFW but I really don't care how he felt about this novel. To me it seemed boring and repetitive. I can see myself not being smart enough to appreciate this book. Ultimately, it really doesn't matter to me because i felt the book was a piece of shit. I am hoping that the rest of the group has a great conversation that I can learn something from.
I can't help but wonder if it is less Ryu and more her Dad's completely awesome and scary Halloween costume/display thing!
You know, I felt the same way while reading Blood Meridian. I didn't feel that I could ever pin down an exact time period. Even if he said when it took place (I can't remember if he had or not) it still felt anachronistic to me.
Hugh wrote: "God, I'm hoping this doesn't come across as pimping... but I can't figure out how to send an email to all friends from the Fiction Files... Apologies who are wondering WTF....I've got a blog at: ..."
Holy Shit! Cannes!! Congrats! I have missed your posts here but clearly you have been busy doing great things!
