Nimesh wrote: "I finally finished with this book. But, I didn't get the whole concept of "Mercerism" and fusion with Mercer. Can anybody explain it to me."
Mercerism is the novel's main religion; a religion in which humanity fuses with the suffering character of Mercer in order to gain a greater sense of collective empathy. Buster Friendly conducts a scathing investigative report on Mercerism and fully exposes the religion as false. Mercer is simply an old drunk actor and the entire scene of Mercer climbing a hill to his death was manufactured in a Hollywood studio... for more see here (under Real Religion Vs False Religion)

Maneesh wrote: "can anyone tell me whts so special about this book? coz i read it and i didnt find anythng in it for it to be rated so high..."OMG! Do you even like Sci-Fi???
Well, to answer your question-- It's a CLASSIC Sci-Fi and you either simple hate a classic or you just love it, there's no asking why you love or hate it!
Dagny wrote: "Heena wrote: "I remeber in DUNE I had to read the appendices again and again! I liked DADOES more than Dune! "I don't think I ever made it through Dune, lol."
lol! If you're not a die-hard sci-fi fan, you can save yourself the trouble! It's too complicated for a casual read! I'm gonna finish all the parts ASAP cauze I wanna complete the series while all the concepts that I learned in the first one are fresh in my mind...
Steve wrote: "I'm not having much luck so far with books in 2015. Maze is my second DNF this year... :/ Link to review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."HAww! Sorry to hear that Steve! I hope your next pick is something that you'll enjoy (or else just pick up a book that you know you'll like, something light!)
I'm also having a bit of trouble through my reads, though I'm liking the books, still I'm like I've again got READER's BLOCK! I'm reading barely 20 pages per day from last week! New year was supposed to be good for reading, isin't it!!!
Let us know what are you planning to read next :)
Andrew wrote: "I've almost read the first half of the book. Good pace, interesting descriptions, very close to the scientific reality."That's great Andrew! I'll be reading this one in the last week of January as I'll be getting this one from my library and as I've already issued 4 books, I can't get another one until I return atleast one!
I hope you enjoy this one!
Okay... I was about to start this book in a day or two, but now I'm stating to re-think!After Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and The War of the Worlds I really need a break from Sci-Fi!
I guess I'll take the much needed break and read Duma Key first, then I'll read this one.
I'll be back in a week or so!

Dagny wrote: "Heena wrote: "OMG! You guys are just killing me! I'm gonna watch it asap! "Please let us know how you like it!"
Dagny Iit's one of the finest Sci-Fi I've ever read! I totally loved it. I loved it's pace and the fact that it was a simple plot... not too hard to understand... I remeber in DUNE I had to read the appendices again and again! I liked DADOES more than Dune!
