I read Innocent Traitor a year or two ago along with a few other of her biographical fiction works. I think she manages to make the leap from true historian to novelist pretty deftly, especially considering that the bulk of her career was spent writing non-fiction about the same subjects she's now covering with fiction.
I've read some of Geraldine Brooks' books -- notably
which focuses on the father from "Little Women" and
, which is about the plague of 1666. Both good books.

Jackie wrote: "I do have Glory on Audible!"Yay! Glory was pretty much required reading in our house: my parents gave it to me for christmas back when I was in college, but I never finished it until I got a hold of it on audio many years later. I then immediately gave it to my niece, who also liked it very much.
Oh, Lea, that's a good one!! I was expecting it to be hokey - not at all!I'm about halfway through my pick, which is one of a series about a family going through WWII in their various military and civilian circumstances: good book!
I found that book both disturbing and moving, Pam. I'll be curious to see what you think.@Lindsey -- I liked that one!
I finished
-- Edward VII's death was unusual in that it occurred in 1910, and royalty from all over Europe, most of whom were related to him, came to the funeral. Four years later they were at each other's throats in the First World War, and after that Kaiser Wilhelm was disgraced, and the Romanov family were murdered.
Glory and the Dream is **MARVELOUS!*** I also liked The Godfather, and Helter Skelter quite a bit. If you like audio books at all, Glory is a good audio pick. It's 54 hours, but then you can listen while you're doing other things, so there's a tradeoff. :)
So, Jackie, I pulled my first two "real" books and put them on my nightstand, and as soon as I finish the two "real" book leftovers I'm still going through from last year, one of them will be the inaugural book for my theft of your plan.
Hi! Happy New Year, everyone! Please nominate a genre for February 2025 in this thread, if you would like to. The only rule for genre nominations is that you cannot nominate a genre that we've already read this calendar year. Below is a list of the genres that have already been chosen this calendar year, which are therefore ineligible.
List of Ineligible Genres
Historical Fiction
Not planning to be a huge stickler on the "genre vs subgenre" thing. If it's a recognized book category (i.e. you can reasonably expect the average Goodreads reader to know what it is), post it.
Nominations open until 1/14, poll to follow.
If you want to see examples of genres and subgenres that Goodreads has some lists for, or figure out where a book/style of book you like happens to fit, try this link:

Here are 5 to start your year! I chose 4 series and 1 stand alone.
