Group read for December 2022A one-of-a-kind Christmas market offers holiday magic in the new romance from the author of The Kindred Spirits Supper Club.
With a name like Astra Noel Snow, holiday spirit isn't just a seasonal specialty--it's a way of life. But after a stinging divorce, Astra's yearly trip to the Milwaukee Christmas market takes on a whole new meaning. She's ready to eat, drink, and be merry, especially with the handsome stranger who saves the best kringle for her at his family bakery.
For Jack Clausen, the Julemarked with its snowy lights and charming shops stays the same, while the world outside the joyful street changes, magically leaping from one December to the next every four weeks. He's never minded living this charmed existence until Astra shows him the life he's been missing outside of the festive red brick alley.
After a swoon-worthy series of dates, some Yuletide magic, and the unexpected glow of new love, Astra and Jack must decide whether this relationship can weather all seasons, or if what they're feeling is as ephemeral as marshmallows in a mug of hot cocoa.
Once Upon a December

Group read for December 2022A soul-stirring novel about what we choose to keep from our past, and what we choose to leave behind.
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising a beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in, and taking over her father's beekeeping business.
Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.
And for just a short while, these new beginnings are exactly what Olivia and Lily need. Their paths cross when Asher falls for the new girl in school, and Lily can’t help but fall for him, too. With Ash, she feels happy for the first time. Yet at times, she wonders if she can she trust him completely . . .
Then one day, Olivia receives a phone call: Lily is dead, and Asher is being questioned by the police. Olivia is adamant that her son is innocent. But she would be lying if she didn’t acknowledge the flashes of his father’s temper in him, and as the case against him unfolds, she realizes he’s hidden more than he’s shared with her.
Mad Honey is a riveting novel of suspense, an unforgettable love story, and a moving and powerful exploration of the secrets we keep and the risks we take in order to become ourselves.
Mad Honey Jodi Picoult
What a great list! Some interesting things I haven’t heard of, and I echo Carolien re Virginia Woolf.

Yay re Marple, YAY re Capote, Yay re Tess. Also I just read Wrong Place Wrong Time and once I figured out its angle, it was pretty riveting!
I really liked "In an Instant," Alissa -- it's similar to "The Lovely Bones" but I liked it much more than I liked "Bones." You have a great list here!
It's a favorite of mine too, although I haven't updated 2022's thread and I need to. I've recently gotten back into reading plays -- I like old plays because they're such a good snapshot of the society they were framed within. I'm reading Philip Barry at the moment (he wrote the plays that became the Katharine Hepburn/Cary Grant classic movies "Holiday" and "The Philadelphia Story").

The Song of the Cell: An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human -- Finished 7/23, and I liked it a little less than the others by him but I still really liked it.
Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing - Finished 2Q23 - Well, he puts it all out there and that absolutely takes courage. I haven't seen much of "Friends" but I loved him in the film with Bruce Willis and even more so in The West Wing and I'd never have guessed from either of those that he had anything going on.
The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder --Finished 1Q23 -- Workmanlike True Crime and wow was this guy sick.
Why We Get Sick: The Hidden Epidemic at the Root of Most Chronic Disease―and How to Fight It**Finished**
All That Moves Us: A Pediatric Neurosurgeon, His Young Patients, and Their Stories of Grace and Resilience--Finished 1Q23 and this book will make you count your blessings.
Grace --Finished 1Q23 and I wish her life had been happier for her.
The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor - the Truth and the Turmoil Finished 2Q23 and this was better written and less whiny than some of the books covering this topic that I've read.

Flying on the Inside: A Memoir of Trauma and Recovery **Finished**

Caught Dead to Write - a nice prequel novella to my favorite of Cahoon's series. Read 1Q23.
The Secret Witness Read 1Q23. I had to go look this up to see which book it was - titles are often so lackluster... but Methos always delivers a solid mystery. This isn't my favorite series of his, though - I'm a little burned out on the serial killer thing and have "been there done that" IRL, so.
The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club I have several by Cahoon on here. This was book one of a new series and it has an interesting premise. I have since also read book two and will be keeping this series on my list.
No Parm No Foul **Finished**
'Til Death **Finished**
Three Tainted Teas **Finished**
The Disappeared **Finished**
Eagles Over Britain - Just read this in the last week (mid-July) and liked it quite a bit, but then I'm a sucker for WWII fiction.
Bitter Roots -- I finished this entire series earlier this year. Another interesting premise and Crosby melds local history, wine-making and an interesting cast of characters into a compelling mix. I got the sense that she might be finished with this series but I hope not!
Peril in Paris -- This is my favorite of Rhys Bowens' series and this one did not disappoint!
The Secret to Southern Charm - I *love* good old southern fiction, and this series is particularly interesting because each book recounts events from a different character's perspective, often covering the same time period as in other books, but throwing in facts and happenings that another "narrator" doesn't seem to know in another book, which changes the perspective on the events quite a bit. The author really makes that work.
Hell and Back -- Walt Longmire-- Nuf Said!

Good Night, Mr. Wodehouse -- Finished 1Q23 and really liked it! I frankly admit I picked this up because I love P. G. Wodehouse and was curious about his role in this book. But I wound up adding much of the rest of this author to my TBR because I liked the story so much!
The Widow Workmanlike domestic suspense/thriller. I liked it, but it wasn't a standout book for me.
Ten Dead Comedians: A Murder Mystery **Finished**
The Whispers of War**Finished**
Truth and Other Lies**Finished**
The Secret Ingredient**Finished**
Hotel Portofino**Finished**
Sister Stardust
Brooklyn Supreme**Finished**
The School for German Brides**Finished**
Pay Dirt Road Read 2Q23. More compelling than I expected it to be, and the author is smart for her age, which I really like. I'll be keeping this author and series on my radar.
