Most Read This Week In Science Fiction
Science fiction (abbreviated SF or sci-fi with varying punctuation and capitalization) is a broad genre of fiction that often involves speculations based on current or future science or technology. Science fiction is found in books, art, television, films, games, theatre, and other media. In organizational or marketing contexts, science fiction can be synonymous with the broader definition of speculative fiction, encompassing creative works incorporating imaginative elements not found in contemporary reality; this includes fantasy, horror and related genres.

“ People say, 'I'm going to sleep now,' as if it were nothing. But it's really a bizarre activity. 'For the next several hours, while the sun is gone, I'm going to become unconscious, temporarily losing command over everything I know and understand. When the sun returns, I will resume my life.' If you didn't know what sleep was, and you had only seen it in a science fiction movie, you would think it was weird and tell all your friends about the movie you'd seen. They had these people, you know? ...more ”
“ Isn’t that what it means to be a scientist? To push the boundaries of the unknown? To bravely, actively explore the enormity of our universe ? ”

[close] The #AdventureSociety is a book club for adventurous people. For as long as people have been telling stories, they've been telling adventure stories. We look back to these roots and recognise adventure as a base for many forms of fiction. Tune in to join the conversation around contemporary adventure fiction and listen to what some of the authors writing adventure today have to say. In each online episode we speak to an author who has recently published a new adventure novel. We hope to bridge the gap between an author and their readers, asking about everything from their latest book to how they got where they are today. You can find the episodes on the Wilbur and Niso Smith Foundation YouTube channel and Facebook page. Click on our website link to find the links and also download our free talk sheets. You are welcome to watch the videos without having read the books, and to discuss the videos as well as the books, when you watch or read them, here. Book club titles are: The Black Art of Killing by Matthew Hall We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker On Wilder Seas by Nikki Marmery Black Sun by Owen Matthews The Last Day by Andrew Hunter Murray Shepherd by Catherine Jinks Watch them on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbbPWwNyQG4&list=PLFeI9Wye0aBXUuzjIIgE4hbl_CMsfeSov Download the free talk sheets: https://www.wilbur-niso-smithfoundation.org/our-work/advancing-adventure-writing
